What's your latest [non-technology] purchase?

I wouldn't bother with something like that as the gopro's base audio recording quality is shit to begin with. I record all audio with a Sony dictaphone (with a wind cancelling tieclip microphone - stereo too!) and then replace it in editing. It comes with wind cancellation, but it's not as good as having a hedgehog sprouting out of it, but you probably don't need a specialised one for it as it's a standard size tieclip mic.

Short comparison:

The dictaphone did cost ?70 new, though.

Your camera seems to have grown a hedgehog. :tease:

Wow, that was MUCH better. But considering I already bought the $250 camera, I can't justify spending $60 (a quick search found it for that) on something just for sound...yet. I'd like to get this for some street action, which is when the GoPro gets used most and what I bought it for. My friend has that camcorder and I love it. I'll probably get that one later this year though, and maybe what you mentioned as well. :)

That's impressive. How do you reckon the dictaphone would fare for mounting the camera outside?

I'll do a test today. Need to figure out a way to mount the microphone outside. The problem is I don't have a proper wind cancellation... hedgehog... for it.

*researches options*

Let us how it works out.

So far my favourite mounting position for the GoPro is right next to one of the rear exhausts, gives a nice throaty sound (well the car gives the sound, the camera just captures half-assedly) but it's basically nothing other than wind noise past, say, 50km/h so I would definitely like to improve on the noise aspect.

Self imposed exile didn't last long? Guessed you missed me :p

Quiet you, I'm trying to pretend that didn't happen. :D

Yeah, I guess it didn't last long... I came back to read the replies to my last post mainly. Not sure what I'm going to do, even with me gone it seems like certain people were still delving deeply into my posts... we'll see.

Hmm... I'll try to mount it low up front and the microphone near the exhaust. I wonder how that will pan out.

Shawn, any vids with said GTI exhaust sound?

Yes... on my computer. :p

I have lots and lots actually, I keep waiting to get better videos before I upload them but I think I'm pretty much reaching the ceiling with the equipment I have. So I'll hopefully get to uploading some stuff soon.

Nice idea, already replied.

I suppose I should post this in the knives thread, but oh well. Just picked this up today:

(Apologies for stock photo, but I figured it was better than a shitty cameraphone shot. :p)

W?sthof Classic IKON 8" Cook's Knife. My first "real" chef's knife, and hopefully the start of a nice collection. :D

Nice, I always liked Wusthof better than Henckles. I'm a Global man myself, their Chef's knife and Santoku are the bomb.

Thanks! I looked at Global, and really wanted to like them, but for me they were just too light. I also looked at a Shun Classic, but had a hard time justifying buying a left hand-only knife.

I like the Henckels blades we have. They hold an edge fabulously. Admittedly, I haven't tried many knives, but we've always had Henckels.
