Maybe I'm the outlier, but I've enjoyed all the Daniel Craig films. They are more planted in reality than some of the camp that came before (looking at you, Moore and Brosnan). I've felt like the Craig films flow together well and are pertinent to the world we live in today, I particularly liked the monopolization of water rather than oil in Quantum of Solace - something that is currently happening by companies like Nestle, but dialed up to super-villain status. Same with the slow reveal of Spectre, the seeds for that were planted in Casino Royale and watching the films back-to-back makes the series very coherent.
I also enjoy the lack of really absurd gizmos; in Casino Royale, Bond didn't use much more than a cell phone with a better screen and camera. There was the explosive key chain and sub-dermal tracking device, but nothing like a watch grappling hook. The miniature defibrillator could have been purchased off-the-shelf at any one of a hundred medical suppliers. In Skyfall, the biggest gadget was how powerful the EPRB was for it's size and the prosthetic worn by Silva to hide his deformity. In Spectre, there are the metal nails worn by Bautista's character, but the strangest was the "smart blood" they injected Bond with.
Overall, not nearly as strange as some of the stuff in previous Bond films. Ironically, one of the most absurd was the "original" Aston DB5 with the machine guns in the bumper.
