Best Police Car

Hi. My first post.

This is what the South Australian Police use on the highways. Soon the will be upgrading the entire fleet to VE Commodores. I saw them testing one last week. Will upload photo when one becomes available.

That looks like a CODAN HF radio if I'm not mistaken on the back there (my old man has one, those things can pick up commercial radio (AM I think) from about 1000km out on a clear night) you could listen to 10.53 2CA (Canberra) from Melbourne
 
It's not for AM radio. ;)

It's usually used for a CB radio, i.e. the things truckers use. My grandpa has a CB (and an antenna like) on his Suburban.
 
I know what it is, I'm saying that it can pick up commerical radio. My dad has one and a CB + UHF on our 4wd. :p You can also use them to call telephones (Telstra used to offer the service here now it's run by some other company who'se name espaces me)

It's funny when you dial in a frequency you can here the antenna mechanically tuning its self.

I'll see if I can find a good website for it.

Costs roughly $1000

Then the unit to connect to that is about $2000

It's some pretty serious kit, I beleive codan sells to militries worldwide with these and similar units.

I know Esso (Exxon/Mobil) used to use them in there Australian ops because you could run data services over them (Codan sell a modem in fact) 3000 baud.... for alerts on pipelines and such

Thanks for putting the photo up. I saw the VE again today on the road. Im going to take my camera with me next week incase I see it again.
 
I saw a red passion mettalic v8 VE commodore Berlina today up close at Hungry Jacks (Burger King for you Americans) and after a bit hum and ah(ing) about the Berlina I relized that it does look quite special (one of the best in that colour I think)


The smoked lights just work unlike the ricers who glue them on thier japbox (i've seen some tards put them on integra's *shudder*)

Can't wait to see the VE in police colours (hopefully not behind me ;) )
 
Hidden_Hunter... The VE is the most amazing cop car I have ever seen on Adelaide roads. So big and intimidating. I heard that the highway division is getting the V8 version too.
 
yeah I'm not sure that counting publicity stunts really counts as "the best police car"
 
They defiantly did have an Esprit as part of the force at one point but I'm sure it was an earlier version.
