Yeah, I went back to the Monaco thread to find the link. I guess I have a professional interest being a CFS Vollie and all...

I'll see if I can analyse it...

At 13:34, the smoke seems to be getting a little lighter which suggests the fuel burning is a bit greener than before. The terrain isn't very dense and the plants seem to be only low with very few trees. Lots of smoke also suggests the fire is burning over quite a wide area. Looks like there could be two fronts...

You can see from HondaF1's shots how its just raced up that hill on the left. Thats a big fire and it looks like it could well be an all nighter for the crews.

13:41, seems to be back in the denser, browner stuff. Smoke is blowing away from Monaco which is good for them, but the fire could well get up that slope on the right and cause some trouble. Not sure whats behind that hill there...

I've been watching it since around 12:10. It was quite small then just erupted. Technically that fires in France though isnt it.

Hard to say, looks as if its over the hill, moving away from Monaco. Smoke doesn't seem quite as thick - maybe they're getting it under control? Few little spot fires seem to have broken out to the right of screen, they could cause problems if not quickly contained.

This is great stuff! My otherwise boring night is suddenly entertaining! :p

Looks like its a pretty inaccessible area as well. Very hard for crews to get to by the looks of things. Smoke seems to be dying off so either its under control now, or its moved behind that mountain and burning whatever it is behind there. Still a bit of smoke about halfway up that hill on the right, I hope someone is monitoring that.

Once the main fire is out, the crews will then spend another few hours just monitoring the site, blacking out the affected area and ensuring that the fire can't restart. This just involves wetting down areas that are still very hot and smoking. This process uses tonnes and tonnes of water and is incredibly boring and time consuming.
 
I was expecting at some stage to see a spotter helicopter flying around monitoring things.

There's a mention on the French TF1 website about the provisional closing of the France/Italy motorway due to fire. No story posted yet apparently, just the headline. That would have to be our fire! :p

Seems to be out now.

Normal service may now be resumed! :p

So did I, it was actually quite fun. Yet at the back of my mind, there was a small voice nagging, telling me how I should probably get a life. No doubt many people on here would probably agree! :p :D
 
Watching the fire unfold was more interesting than watching the Monaco Gr yesterday. I want my 3 hours back Bernie, I'll accept a cheque.

I need to get a life too. But who cares what people think. That was a very entertaining couple of hours.
