Quite liking Johnny Cash - Ghostriders in the Sky

Was strange at first coz normally I stay well away from country music. Was like being hit over the head with a haybale first time...

I consider Johnny more folk than country. Atleast that makes me feel better anyway ;)

You know the song "Red Right Hand" from the Scream Soundtrack or from the X-Files "Songs in the Key of X" CD? It's by a band called Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds.

Anyways, he has an old song called "The Mercy Seat" and Johnny Cash covered it on one of his American Recordings discs, and it is my favorite of his covers. Also, Johnny actually sings a duet with Nick Cave: They do "I'm So Lonesome I Could Cry." Mr Cash's covers of "Solitary Man" from Neil Diamond and "Rusty Cage" from Soundgarden are also worth a listen.

Anyways, my current favorite song is "Tattoo of Your Name" from VAST. It almost sounds like it could be a dark-ish Johnny Cash song.

Here are the lyrics:

She told me he was beating her today
And she showed me all the bruises on her face
I said, baby, can I make it all OK
She said, honey, you should make him go away

There's a hundred thousand dollars in the bank
And the policy he took out yesterday
We can live outside the country for awhile
Until things smooth over and get under control

There's a tattoo of your name across my soul

I bought a rifle and black guns without a name
For an alibi she went six states away
When I saw him I felt fire I felt cold
Like the devil and the lord wanted my soul

Like the tattoo of your name across my soul

So I shot him in his car until he died
I called to give the signal and she cried
Life has a way of making other plans
She called the cops and said I was a crazy man

I'm gonna get this thing removed when I can

There was never any policy
And the bruises came from falling on the street
So the judge gave me one hundred thousand years
In the courtroom she was filling up with tears

I saw her hold the lawyer's hand real tight
They looked tired from lack of sleep last night
Seems the whole time she had me under control

With a tattoo of her name across my soul

She gets off and I will never have parole

Just this tattoo of your name across my soul
Just this tattoo of your name across my soul

She is the shit on the tecno/hard house/electronica scene ATM, and she's only 18 yrs old. Works with "Mr. Oizo" and "Feeds" (her bf)

I'm sorry haz, but her music is crap, at least based on those two songs.

I love Trance / Techno / etc., but that is too much like rap. I much more prefer the stuff that's like on the Essential Mix (of which I need to stag a recent edition...).

it's fair enough that you think she's crap. The fact is she an up and coming star in that genre, want it or not ;)

I think she rocks, and I don't care if she's only 18 and I've seen her interview - and she not very smart nor social intelligent....
