My parents stand by the fact that the commodores they've owned are some of the best cars they've ever owned, both my parents loved the v8 :D

My parents have both tended to hold onto their cars for as long as possible, and I don't have much knowledge of the cars they had before I was born.

Dad

Late 1970's Mazda 929 in Lime-Yellow. (70's - tastic!) - Sold, replaced by Volvo.

1986 Volvo 740 GLE - bought new as family car when I was born. Cruise control never worked but it was otherwise awesome, I kind wish we still had it. It was light blue and one of the first of that type sold in Australia. Traded-in for Saab #1 in 2000.

1996 Saab 900 2.3 V6 in silver aka 'Sven' - cool car - we went on a family trip to Perth and back in it and somehow managed to stuff all our gear into the hatch. Dad traded it for Saab #2 in 2003 when my parents divorced so he could buy a new place with his girlfriend.

1994 Saab 9000 CD in white aka 'Gus' - his current car. Not as fast as the 900 but the leather upholstery is nice LOL!

Mum

Early 1970's Ford Falcon - was her father's. Traded in for Mazda #1.

Late 1970's Mazda 929... in bright purple! Bought new, traded for Mazda #2.

1984 Mazda 323 Hatch - was crappy, paint faded and interior fell apart within a year, but because we had the Volvo she held onto it. It also refused to die, surviving being rear-ended by a ute at a stop sign and a close encounter with a poplar when mum span it on gravel. First car I ever drove (paddock bomb). Scrapped in 1998.

1998 Peugeot 306 XT Hatch - Bought as six-month old demo, her current car. Both my brother and I learnt to drive in it. It's currently being shared between her, my brother and I. So far it's stood up to the abuse of two P-platers, but it will probably be traded soon, most likely for an ex-demo Mazda of some kind, or a 307. My brother and I will hopefully be getting a used Mitsu Magna wagon to share - he needs to be able to transport a drum kit around and it's hard to stuff into the Pug. I want my own car but that probably won't happen anytime soon. :(

Dad's Partner

1989 Mazda MX-5 in red - was her and her husband's car, which she lost when they divorced. Replaced by Excel.

1992 Hyundai Excel aka 'Ethel' - I learnt manual in it and helped to finish it off mechanically LOL! I feel really sorry for her that she went from an MX5 to an Excel, but she needed a hatchback to carry stuff for her business. Traded in for the Honda.

2006 Honda Jazz GLi in silver - Her current car, very nice. :)

I don't know all of my family's car history, but I'll go as far back as I can.

Dad:
1967 Camaro SS
1969 Camaro Z28
1969 Camaro SS
1967 Impala
1987 RX 7
1993 Rx 7
1997 SL500
2000 Grand Cherokee
2007 911 Turbo

Mum: (i know much less about my mum's car history)
1975 Le Car
1985 Civic
1989 Accord
1993 Astro Van
1998 ML320

That's not all of them, but only the ones I know, and I know alot more of my dad's...

Well, my family has had a number of cars over the years, split between asia and Australia

Asia:
1998 Mercedes Benz S600 (got rid off it as it was quiet unreliable, especially for a merc. We didn't need something so big as well)
2006 Lexus IS250 (replaced the S600. More than enough for short commutes)
2000 Mazda MX5 (something fun for trackdays. We own it with a friend 50:50)
2000 Mercedes Benz SLK (My sister wants a convertible. I absolutely hate this thing)

Australia:
2002 Lotus Elise (now written off thanks to a distracted dumbshit running into it)
2004 Honda Jazz VTi (great city car, surprisingly good to drive)
1998 Mercedes Benz E55 AMG (Very comfortable, good for long journeys. I don't drive it much though)
1988 Mini Cooper (I absolutely love it. Really easy to park as well...)

Can't how many expensive cars are on these lists!!!! Some rich mums and dads here!

1985 Mazda 626 2.0
1998 Land Rover Freelander 1.8
2005 Toyota Camery 3.0G
2005 Toyota 4Runner SR5

Not all of us are born in money. My family have worked out asses off to get to where we are today

1968 Shelby GT350 Mustang (currently own)
1968 Plymouth Hemi GTX (currently own)
1968 Shelby GT500 Mustang (currently own)

No, no, no. Someone is going to have to bust out the digital camera and bless us all with some good high-res pics.

Too much American muscle there to ignore. 8)

Let's seem some old school american muscle. Shame they're so overpriced in Asia and Australia.

My Dad bought his fist car when he moved here from Ireland. It was second hand and it was older than most other cars on the road so he and my mother were embarrassed by it and got rid of it pretty much as soon as they were settled. It was, wait for it, an FC Holden. A rare classic these days...

Then he had company cars from then on:

He had a 1970's ex-council Chrysler Valiant that he bought at auction for a while.

Then they moved back to Ireland (where I was born) and while he was there he had a few Escort panel vans.

Then they moved back here where they were given an XD Falcon by the company.

By this stage my Dad was allowed to choose his own car within budget so he bought a white VL Commodore station wagon.

Then he bought one of the very worst cars ever made: A 4 cylinder 1994 Mitsubishi Magna with an automatic transmission. This car's very existence is a crime. It's a hateful little car built by a hateful company in a hateful factory in a hateful way by hateful little people who hate you. It was literally impossible to make any kind of journey in this car without it reminding you of how awful it was and how much it hated you for owning it.

After that, in 1998, my Dad was keen to by another Magna but thankfully I was old enough to take some interest in the whole process and I found a car that I thought was 100% better. The only problem was that it was made in Japan and he had never owned a foreign car and was very, very reluctant. He said we had to support the
local Mitsubishi factory but I knew that the real reason is that my Dad is terrified of change and risk and the unknown. So I made reasoned arguments based on sound logic and facts. I presented my arguments in a clear concise manner and in a well though out way. I used magazine articles and reviews to help him see that there was little risk in buying this foreign car and I explained to him that there was no point at all in supporting Mitsubishi Australia because they're a lumbering dinosaur that needs to die off in order for the fitter, healthier Australian manufacturers to thrive. None of this worked.

So I did what any twelve year old would do; I broke things and yelled a lot.

Two months later he took delivery of a Subaru Forester.

And he liked it so much he bought another one three years later.

Then another.

In a few months he'll be up for another new car and guess what he wants?

And that folks is how you pad-out a very short, uninteresting list. Sorry there were no Ferrari's.

Hey, Foresters are good cars. You don't need to be rich to enjoy cars (e.g. My mini)

Can't give you per year, cause i'm not THAT pedantic.

Just to clarify, I wasn't saying that as a negative comment. I don't care how people get their money, if they have it enjoy it.

It was just a surprise comment, I was expecting legions of beige vauxhalls and maroon fords. But we have had AMG Mercs, Astons, Ferraris and American Muscle.

You are on a car forum Nexc0, so expect some of us to spend a fair bit on cars.
