Time to go back further in time. :) The thought here is also to take the two highest placed cars from all our favourite-rally-car polls and create the "ultimate" poll to find out which is our all time favourite rally car.

is awesome in so many ways it should definitely win this poll, but I'm going for this:

because somehow it has always been closer to my heart.

Ferrari, only because I have to. Otherwise Stratos all the way...I mean c'moon

As a rally car the Fiat 131 makes the most sense. I think with the Escort in 2nd

The Stratos is the weird kind of car i don't ever imagine myself driving, but i love seeing other people in, anyways its almost up there but somehow misses, i don't know why.

the Alfetta, and the 308 look more at home on a paved raceway with less ridiculous bodykits and decals, so no from me, dispite the fact i otherwise really like those cars.

My presumptions are on style alone, i know nothing of the history of the cars.

So much automotive porn. I would argue that the Renault 5 Turbo was a Group B car though.

If I had the money and was building one myself it would be a MkII Escort BDA. However if I had a LOT of money I would definitely get a Fiat 131 to be different. They tie for first place with the Stratos next.

Surely the golden era of rally. Group B was car wise but late 70's early 80's saw Rohrl, Vatanen, Alen, Mikkola, Munari, Blomqvist, Makinen and Waldegard fighting it out. In my eyes, Loeb still hasn't overtaken Rohrl as the best rally driver ever and the sight of a fully committed Vatanen in the MkII Escort is surely the best rally viewing you could ever see.

The Renault 5 Turbo was around came around 2 or 3 years before Group B started. But it also was run under Group B rules fo a while. But I don't think Renault used the rules to their full advantage tuningwise.Never made as much power as the other Group B cars. Also lacked 4WD. It was kinda left in Group 4 mode and was therefore only competitive on tight tarmac rallies like the Tour de Corse. in the early years of Group B.

Statos, then the A110

I've always been partial to the Fiat Abarth

Why dont Ferrari and Porsche make rally cars anymore? I can so imagine the current 911 speeding on dirt roads.

They didn't make rally cars then either. All of the Ferraris and Porsches were privatley entered

Also the 996 GT3 and 997 GT3 have been entered privately on some tarmac events.
