Images of the new 2010 Hyundai Genesis Coupe have leaked online, ahead of its official debut next week at the New York Auto Show. The coupe is based on the same rear-wheel-drive platform as the Genesis sedan. It was previewed with a concept version late last year, and later to a marketing study group in pre-production form.

The car is expected to hit the market in Spring 2009, making it a 2010 model.

Hyundai officials recently revealed that the base car will be powered by a turbocharged four-cylinder engine with up-level models being propelled by a 3.8L V6 ? not the previously rumored V8 from the Genesis sedan. While official performance numbers remain unknown, Hyundai is tauting the production Genesis Coupe as the most affordable 300+ horsepower car on the market. Because Hyundai is specifically going after the Ford Mustang, look for final horsepower ratings in the 310 to 320 range. The car pictured in the leaked photos has a redline of 6,500 rpm.

The car's center stack features a large LCD screen, while the gauge cluster has a futuristic, two-pod design. The Genesis Coupe will have a 2+2 setup, with cup holders separating the rear buckets. Despite only having two doors, rear seat legroom looks surprisingly ample.

?Genesis Coupe is the most thrilling, most emotional Hyundai yet,? said John Krafcik, vice president, product development and strategic planning, Hyundai Motor America when the concept was first shown. ?When it hits the market in early 2009, we aim to deliver a driving experience that challenges cars like Infiniti G37, at prices more like Mitsubishi Eclipse.?

Yeah, I could rock this thing.;)

That looks pretty good, although Hyundai should make a design department of their own rather than launching cars inspired from japanese ones: the Genesis sedan with its LS roots and this resembling an LF-A coupe. But I can't see nothing wrong in a affordable korean car that looks like a Lexus.

Man that's ugly. I'm sure it will sell like crazy though. If they really want to go after the pony car market in earnest, they should at least make an optional V8.

Give this a decent price tag and it'll sell by the bucketload. I really like the look of it.

It looks pretty good, except for the head lights. And also, don't call it the Genesis Coupe. Call it the Tiburon.

5 years ago it would have looked good. Too cookie cutter now. That rear glass is pretty strange too...

OK, seen this months ago. Nothing worth getting excited about any more.

Front: so and so.
Back: actually pretty decent. Not bad, Hyundai, not bad.

Squint at the pictures and looks like a cross between a Mercedes and a Infiniti G35.

Dated already.

Looks good and proabably will be really nice for the price, but i dunno how it will fare for '10

Any word on the actual weight of the car?

It looks nice... it looks nicer than anything else that's ever come out of Korea. But there is some weird elements to the design. I'm not a fan of the weird shape of the back window; and the black parts of the bumper make it look cheap.

Also, Tiburon is a much cooler name for a sports coupe than Genesis. Genesis sounds like something out of Detroit.

My approval rating: 100% -- and that's never happend before.

Holy shit Hyundai, you have scored. I LOVE it, the front is just odd enough to be beautiful and aggressive. The rear is just perfect, and the small hint of a base 4cyl turbo makes me wonder if it would be affordable in the $25k USD price range. :D

umm... the concept did look pretty stunning, but this thing... kinda look quite strange to me...

Straddles the line between looking handsome and looking too generic - but RWD and Hyundai's typical overachieving standard features list, plus that cheap a price means that we can't lose.

Hope it comes with a stick and a V8!

The slope downwards at the rear window is just downright messy. The front and back look fine though. Truly sleek and modern. Kudos for Hyundai for making a proper RWD coupe that will be affordable (at least I hope).

^ Why? This will probably hit dealers in slightly over a year... don't think car design will go Jetsons in a year.

Being a Lexus owner, I see quite a few similarities in lines between this and the IS, and that's a good thing for me. :p

there are 3 teams of designers at work on this car, a team which design the front, and another that design the rear, and the poor bugger who've to tie it together~

quoted from someone somewhere when they reviewed the Celica~
