Why do the Top Gear presenters have crooked teeth? (is it a British thing?)

I do think that on the whole, America does put too much effort into "cosmetic dentistry", shall we call it. Far beyond the general dental health, into the realm of bleaching and all sorts of strange stuff. It just isn't natural for one to spend that much time thinking about their teeth. There are some exceptions, but most worry about their teeth needlessly.

Your teeth have a function, to chew food. Keep them brushed so they don't rot out and your breath doesn't smell of dead slippery eels. Anything past general health is a bit creepy IMO. I use mouthwash from time to time, because it has a few benefits.

Basically, as long as you're not Ottobon then you're all set. :D

A combination of two things already mentioned. Firstly, genes, most of Britain is descended from filthy poor peasantry, and I guess any genetic traits carried over.

Umm... And who do you think many of the people of the US are descended from?
European "peasants" - I think you'll find.

Thats funny, i didnt know peasants could afford to leave their lands/farms (their sole source of income and home for centuries) to pay for a ridiculously expensive transatlantic charter and than afford to build entire cities literally from nothing.

At first at least (17th century), the american colonists should have been fairly well off... Enough to drop everything and go on new world adventures.

I mean they can surely afford to get their teeth straightened and/or whitened, no? :(

I know for a fact that 90% of all british women have crooked horse-teeth, and look awful.

That's why i'm never going there again.

 ^ Not that I agree with the comment, but the delivery is too classic.

And yet later of course the Irish fleeing the potato famine, the Scots fleeing the clearnace and many many europeans fleeing all sorts of persecution struggled to the New World in appalling conditions.
Not all Americans are descended from the early colonists.
Just as not all British people have bad teeth
Or all Americans are stupid and unaware of their history

Has anyone mentioned Hammonds teeth yet. They are lovely.....Calrkson is forever joking on about how he's had the whitened.

Yes, I mentioned Hammond's teeth on page 1 of this thread and even included a picture for reference. You are correct in saying they are lovely.

And to think the number of men that died saving them from the Nazi's...

:)

Only 48 posts before we get to Nazis Well done! Godwin's rule still applies
(JFGI!)

What are you talking about nothing hotter than a nice snaggletooth. Oh, and the sexy, sexy halitosis. Oh baby, baby oh.

I mean i just brush and floss and they maintain sort of an off-white. Not shiny celebrity uber white, but i think they look nice, its part of hygiene in the US at least to have clean teeth.

Clarkson at least seems to have neon yellow teeth :)

lol

some people do have bad teeth, but at least everyone i know brushes twice daily and alot of them use electric brushes and at some point have had braces/retainers. so well have healthy, straight, kinda white teeth.

the hollywood way of making you look like u had your teeth cleaned with radon looks horrific. but then again thats not the worst thingthat can happen on the west coast so....

1. The Top Gear presenters do not have particularly "crooked" teeth. Clarkson has somewhat yellow teeth from smoking as does May. Middle aged people do not generally have sparkling white teeth like someone who is younger because of decades of wear and activities that are not particularly good for teeth (read smoking); which less people are participating in since awareness has been raised. Hammonds teeth have been whitened incase you didn't notice.

2. If it's a British thing then it must be an American thing and all the countries from the common wealth thing as well since they are mostly descended from the British.

3. Also, if you see some other nationality with crooked and not 100% white teeth do you ask if it is a "thing" of the particular nation of which they are a citizen?

that's exactly what I was thinking... both Japan and UK are rich countries... yet
those people have really bad teeth... there's nothing more painful than watching
a Japanese porn actress with bad teeth go down on a guy... :( (maybe that's why
they use mosaic to censor the videos?)

How many Japanese and British people have you actually seen? If British people have "bad teeth" as you call them then that means that most of the citizens of the common wealth do and America; that is a rediculous amount of people to generalise about. See you ain't replied back so you are obviously an abnoxious little troll:mrgreen:

Has he though or is it just one of clarksons incessant jokes?

The other day I actually found an article written by Jeremy that stated the particular series where he did whiten his teeth. He said he ended one series and came back to the next with a mouth like this -->

I will go through my history to find it...hopefully I can.

I've nothing against him if he did whiten them - he obviously cares for his appearance.

I have good reason to do such things. As part of a dental study im currently being paid to whiten my teeth.
