I do think that on the whole, America does put too much effort into "cosmetic dentistry", shall we call it. Far beyond the general dental health, into the realm of bleaching and all sorts of strange stuff. It just isn't natural for one to spend that much time thinking about their teeth. There are some exceptions, but most worry about their teeth needlessly.
Your teeth have a function, to chew food. Keep them brushed so they don't rot out and your breath doesn't smell of dead slippery eels. Anything past general health is a bit creepy IMO. I use mouthwash from time to time, because it has a few benefits.
