On Saturday the Intel Racing Tour started in munich, germany.

I went down to munich to find some details about the way, how to win the myterious BMW M6 in this event.

Intel and BMW put up a huge tent, with enough room for 4 fullscale BMW Sauber F1 cockpits to race LFS in, a nice TV-corner to follow F1 qualifying and 2 real BMW F1 cars, to look at. Just the poor BMW M6 had to be parked outside the tent, in the sun of this nice spring day.

Now to the details:
To race in the IRT, you have to be a citizen of austria, suisse or germany. Then you can sign in on the list, and the moderator will call you, when it's your turn. Together with 3 other racers you get into the cockpits ( watch the mirrors, some got broken already ). The wheel - some Logitech "FX" wheel - is then attached in a good position for your hands. Also the pedals are adjustable for several long legs.

When seated, you have about 2-3 minutes to warm up, get used to the given setup and the autoshift. After that, the race is simply restarted and off you go. Now a race of three laps, where the overall time counts to for the qualifying list. The overall ten fastest drivers are invited to the finals in february 2007 in the end. Good stuff for LFS though, nice way to promote things. Although the few minutes warm up, 3lap races, and using some crappy logitech as wheel is a bit stupid imo.

i was there last saturday...

the FF on the wheels is bloody awful and so is the setup...so its not really a lot of fun to drive. but i won't moan about that, since your doing it for an M6, not for fun.

on my first try, they ended the qualify before i crossed the finish line, so the start was in rather random order and as a result i crashed into a noob who braked way too early. only managed a 4:35 that way.
on my second try, i got confused with the lap display and stopped after the second lap, before i realized i had one more to go. the result was a 4:36.
so i was pretty embarassed and about to leave, when one of the intel girls encouraged me to go for a third round.
so i finally managed a decent qualy and did some three quick laps, resulting in a pretty good 4:28.90, which is should have been somewhere between top 5 and top 10...if they had managed to record the times properly...appearently they did not, because the ranking on their website is lacking a lot of times from what i have heard on the german forum, mine included. images/smilies/thumbdown.gif

i hope they get this sorted out...i will pay them another visit when they come to the rhein main area again.

I was on for a 4:20-25 for 3 laps with the default setup on my first try with the combo, then ran out of fuel on the last lap. :/

the default setup is quite a bit faster...but 25s should be possible with the irt set.

Ah, i figured theyd just use the default setup. What's the point of making a special setup that's worse..

appearently they thought the default set was too challenging for the inexpierenced driver.
