Season 8 Schedule and Rules

Hello all,
Team Finalgear felt it was time to harken back to the days of yore of the Live For Speed (LFS) Demo. So, we are going to host a FG member only LFS Demo 4-Race mini season with a custom FG forum title prize.

Race Calendar:

• June 14th - XFG+XRG @ BL1 - 2x10 Laps (2 Races, 10 Laps each)
• June 21st - FBM @ BL1 - 2x10 Laps
• June 28th - XFG @ BL2 - 2x10 Laps
• July 5th - FBM @ BL1 - 2x20 Laps (Finale)

Race Format:

• Weather: will be dictated by the real life cloud cover of Blackwood, Scotland on the day of the event. (the theoretical approximation of the location of the Blackwood Circuit, if actually existed)
• Wind: will be dictated by the real life wind speeds of Blackwood, Scotland on the day of the event. 0-10 mph of wind = No wind in LFS, 10+ = Low wind in LFS. High wind in LFS will not be used.
• Qualifying starts 17:00 GMT (a poll could be added to vote for a different starting time if current time is not adequate)
  
• 15 min Qualifying
• 2 Feature Races
• 1st Race - 17:30 GMT - Compulsory pitstop
• 2nd Race - ~18:00 GMT - Reverse finishing order start, no compulsory pitstop
• Note: There is no formal pit window, but for the sake of racing do not pit early for avoiding traffic. Try not to pit in the 1st and last ~30% of the race. Gentleman's agreement.

Points System:

1. 20
2. 16
3. 13
4. 10
5. 8
6. 6
7. 4
8. 3
9. 2
10. 1

• 1 bonus point for pole position
• 1 bonus point per race for leading a lap
• 1 bonus point per race for the fastest lap
• S2 licensed racers may take part in the championship, but will not score any points.

The winner of the 4 race championship will be given a custom FG forum title of their choosing from Viper.

How to Sign Up:
To sign up for the new FG demo season, first go to www.lfs.net and click on the "Create A New Account" button at the top, or go directly to the form here, and fill it out. Then reply to the Season 8 Signup thread with your chosen LFS username.

Then back to the LFS website, click on "Download LFS S2", choose the download mirror closest to you and save the file to where you can remember. Then run the self-extracting exe file and have it extract the files to a new folder of where you want it. The downloaded version is Patch Y, we will be using the test patches Y19 and later. Download the test patch here, and run the self-extracting exe to extract to the folder you chose for LFS. Tell it to overwrite all files that it asks.

To enable the new username you chose in the game, after starting LFS, click on "Unlock Live For Speed S2" and enter your username and GAME password.

You are now ready to join us on the track. We hope to see you there. If you have any questions, we will be happy to answer them. Also, check out the LFS Manual and LFS Forums for additional information about LFS.

How long is the demo's operational time? And does the unlock cost something?

The demo's operational time is unlimited. The demo doesn't cost anything, but unlocking S2 is £24.

I know the XFG is that Front wheel drive GTI and XRG being that blue RWD car.

But what's "FBM"?

and the track? Just the normal Blackwood GP?

The FBM is the Forumla BMW car. And Blackwood is the only track on the demo...

then what does BL2 mean?

Probably the same track, but the reverse version. Just a hunch.

there is one track "Enviroment" in the demo, which has two configurations.

Blackwood GP - BL1
Blackwood Rallycross - BL2

and as stated above, the FBM - Formula BMW - is a car in LFS that is modeled after the real life version

The [FG] Racing server is secured with the password stated in the first post. The server is running the latest test patch Y19. So make sure you got the client version of Y19, (the one with demo license).
[FG] Racing 2 is not secured and running Patch Y.

i unfortunately need to postpone the official races for one week. i have to go out-of-town, and would not have access to anything LFS related. as such, this delay may encourage more demo drivers to join us. remember, if you are a demo driver and are wanting to join the season, please post your LFS username in the season 8 signup thread in the LFS subforum.

i would still invite anybody who wants to, to join the FG server on saturday for some fun races, a test day if you will.

obviously since not a soul showed up, even the ones who expressed interest, we'll just have to cancel the idea. i would have thought at least two or three new people would show, but it wasn't to be i guess.

Nobody showed up? I was out so I couldn't race but I would have expected some demo racers to turn up. Maybe we can just have fun races.

Eh, you can't just spontaneously decide to race and gather all the people. It's hard to synchronise everyone's personal schedule, considering we are on different sides of the globe. Schedule is absolutely neccessary.

Well it is conflicting with Euro2008, which does only happen every two years, which is why I missed it. Otherwise I'd like to race.

Saturdays are also bad because that's the most social night of the week, and it's hard to say no to going out so that you can play LFS. I know that Sundays are probably out of the question with the F1 being then, and weeknights mean you have to think about work, so on balance Saturday is probably the best but like MXM said i guess, it's not possible to please everyone.

Also, I haven't been able to connect to [FG] Racing/fg since i reinstalled LFS. I can get in to [FG] Racing 2 (I guess i missed the news on which server is for what, there wasn't a 2 the last I heard). Is there a different version or password or something on [FG] Racing?

psdf said he couldn't connect this saturday either. Just timed out. There's something weird going on...

Password for [FG] Racing was "fg demo" I think.

Yeah I think I tried that password after I saw it in a thread. I also tried setting the version to Demo and S2 and neither worked. Demo gave me an error message and S2 gave me nothing. It tried to connect, then just went back to the join specific host screen.
