Nice to see Mitsu did a decent job on the new EVO, but I would still rather have an STi. At least Subaru encourages track time, rather then voiding your warranty. I sure hope MotorTrend doesn't let the dealership read this issue, they may have some additional "Extra Costs" should anything fail or break before the end of their "long-term" test.
Little OT, but... Isn't that the same racetrack that Best Motoring uses for their American Touge specials? Is that the new Ricer HQ or something?

Damn, the X is .8 second slower to 60mph than the IX and 1.7 slower around that course than the IX MR? What a shame, if I wanted something that kept me on the road I'd go buy a Camry, or a Malibu. Not an EVO.

The Evo died after the Evo 6 .
(Oh no... more bad reputation points, for speaking the truth. )

I think this goes to show that Mitsubishi are not concerned about the EVO being a hard core fan boy's car, but competitive against it's European counterparts, like Audi and BMW. Sadly, I see the EVO heading towards the same path the Eclipse took. And no one takes a new Eclipse seriously as a performance car.

Yeah I'd still get a VII over any of the newer ones. The thing that frustrates me is that they want to make it safer and more comfortable and quiet... Why? You buy an Evo because you want to sacrafice everything for speed.
If you wanted to sacrafice speed for safety and comfort you'd buy a Volvo, so why does this car even exist? It would be like Subaru making an Impreza hatchback to compete with hot-hatches... oh wait..

btw, if you go to maps.google.com and locate Fernley, NV, then scroll down hwy 95 past the airport, you can see the track itself.
The uphill section pictured is where you run the course counter-clockwise (i.e., main straight going north-ish), you do the big 180 carousel at the northmost point of the track, come back, at the first fork you go right rather than finish the esses...it's a very uphill section. Steve |

I was never looking foward to this car, seeing how I absolutely despise the regular Lancer GTS, a car I've said numerous times needs to die a slow and painful death. Mitsubishi makes absolutely nothing that intrests me. I'd rather have a WRX or a STI (yes I'd take a hatchback STI over a Evo X) than anything with a Mitsubishi badge on it.

It's still a heavier, 'blander' car. I'm sure any updated version will still be fast, it just makes me sad that they're trying to dumb these cars down.

It has to be a heavier, 'blander' car. Look at all the companies that don't. Marcos, TVR, etc... How many times have they been sold?

If this was the pre production model it would have, no km's on the dial and the engines still wouldn't have been 'broken in' so i wouldn't take much out of the 0 - 60 times, cause i would think the the IX would be a well worn engine. U can sometimes have the acceleration times drop by .3 of a second, plus this model isn't a spec'd up 1 and has the ECU problem at high revs.
Wait another couple of months for reviews and will show cars real speed and cornering ability.

Same, although is there going to be a sedan STi? Or only a hatchsuck?
