| Hey guys, was hoping if any of u knowledge of a ex-American touring car that Porsche made to race in the States? It got banned, cause it was an unfair advantage. It had like 800hp from a V12 twin turbo engine, also apparently it was the 2nd widest Porsche ever made. Once banned, Porsche took it back to Germany, tinkered with motor and turbos to make 1500hp. They then went back to the US to test it on the track while other car were there and i demolished them. Apparently has German stickers and some Audi stuff on it too. I have a mate that was telling me about it cause it is currently staying in Melbourne, and he had to help out his old man check the car crate while coming through customs. He found out some facts, 0 - 100km in 1.8seconds, 0 - 200mph back to 0 in mid to high 13's. Currently worlds most powerful race car, and still holds records for some of the faster average speeds around some USA tracks. Cost Porsche around 1 million to create and was insured for $900,000 on the boat ride down here, and its value to Porsche is 3 - 4 mil. Just wondering on whats its called and if anyone has pic's?

| Mmm are you sure he wasn't pulling your leg? 1500 bhp seems a bit too much. /edit: All Porsche racingcars: http://www.porsche.com/usa/eventsand...ry/racingcars/ Last edited by jensked; November 21st, 2007 at 10:06 AM. | |

| Im not too sure but im getting to look at pics tomz, the fact sheet will hopefully be on there, its going to be in the Collingwood Porsche Show rooms. Just looked on Wikipedia, and what my mates described to me seems alot like the Blue CanAm 1972 - 1973 pic, cause he said it had audi somewhere on it.

| As the successor to the 1972 Can-Am championsip winning 917/10 Turbo, the Porsche 917/30 was the most powerful road-racing car ever made. In it's final incarnation it's twin turbocharged 5,4-litre flat 12 produced 1600 hp in qualifying and anythin up to 1100 hp for the races, depending on how much power the drivers Mark Donohue, George Follmer, Jo Siffert and Willi Kauhsen felt needed. According to Porsche's engine guru, Hans Mezger the engine could have produced a lot more power with intercoolers if they wanted. In the 1973 Can-Am championship it completely wiped the table clean, which led to fuel restrictions and a banning of forced induction effectively killing the 917/30 off to let the old cast iron big block V8s have a chance again. ![]()

Rep Power: 0 ![]() | in my opinion the porsche 917/30 is not only the most powerful racecar, it is also one of the most bautiful ones ever made! it is the way it has been desgned: form follows function, it looks fast, it is (very) fast and it's proportions and kurves, it really looks great! in the times of overregulated race series (for example formula one) i wish there would be something like the can-am series nowadays! |
