Default BP-Ford Mud Message!

Hi all,

I work with BP-Ford and would firstly like to thank Viper007Bond for allowing me to post something I hope you’ll find interesting.

To celebrate BP-Ford’s WRC manufactures victory at the last rally of the season and coinciding with Marcus Gronholm’s retirement, we created something special - a 35 foot tall mud message emblazoned across some Welsh hillside near Sennybridge!

The mud message was created using turf we placed mud-side up to give the effect that a rally car had been let loose. The turf was a great, environmentally friendly alternative to actually ripping up the grass – one passerby commented “it looks like a rally car has pulled a load of donuts in a field...!”
We unveiled ‘WE DID IT!’ on November 30th, just in sight of the Halfway Stage of Rally GB. We’re pretty proud of the end result and would love to know what everyone here thinks.

Thanks,

Rachel images/smilies/smile.gif

It looks good! Almost, too good. images/smilies/smile.gif

Question though - I am in the United States, so things may be a bit different here - but if you had actually used a skilled driver to do it with a rally car, thereby destroying a little grass, would that have caused some sort of stink? I mean, grass will grow again.

Anyways, just wondering. And thanks for sharing!

Welsh mud is purple :S???? I am still very sad that Marcus didn't win the title in his last year but he has had a great career and judging from the last few rallies Mikko is ready to jump into his footsteps. Tell Malcolm to ink the contract with Jari-Matti as well images/smilies/tongue.gif

Bloody brilliant! My mum has a Ford Focus ST so seeing you guys win the manufacturer title again was brilliant!
Shame about Marcus's retirement, he is a legend and i will miss watching him.
Good luck in 2008!

Default BP-Ford Mud Message!

Hello,

Thanks for your feedback! To answer your question, gtrietsc, we wanted to keep the effect as environmentally friendly as possible. Grass does grow back but we knew that we wouldn't have been able to create half as eye-catching or accurate an effect if we'd used a rally driver to race over the hillside. Although, that would have been a lot of fun to watch!

As for the purple mud (images/smilies/lol.gif), the weather was awful on the day, and a thin layer of rain ended up settling on the mud we used, giving it a very colourful hue!

Great mud message!

Congratulation on winning the manufacturer's title, the Ford was a great all around car. I liked both Citroen and Ford and both title drivers Loeb and Gronholm. Both are very good drivers and competition like this is what make WRC great.

Good luck in 2008!

Hello,

Thanks for all your comments - much appreciated images/smilies/smile.gif I thought I'd share a few more images that show the process in a bit more detail.

Heh, I still say you should just dug up the grass. I mean, it is grass after all. It'll grow back, or your could have just stuck the grass back in when done.

Cool regardless. images/smilies/cool.gif

Good idea - love the rally car pic, and well done on winning the WRC. Some great drivers around at the moment - Gronholm is one of the very best.
