Default Montoya has just been released by McLaren...

apparently after announcing his intent to join up with chip ganassi in NASCAR for 2007, mclaren have released JPM and replaced him with test driver Pedro de la Rosa effective immediately. Pedro will race in this weekend's race in France.

is there a possiblity we will soon be seeing lewis hamiton in a race seat?

Unlikely, but not impossible. If McLaren were to sign Lewis for 2007(wouldn't surprise me) they might give him a chance to race this season. But I think he'll concentrate on GP2 for now.

As for the news about Montoya leaving, it doesn't surprise me that much. It has been clear for a while that Montoya just didn't feel at home in McLaren and that was not good for either party. It made Juan underperform which in turn ate his motivation. On this background I fell it's unsurprising that he would agree to take the rest of the season off, relax a bit and be around as he becomes a dad for the second time.

I posted this article over in this thread - I think it sums this up nicely.

I think Juan's been unhappy in F1 for a while, and seems he has some family issues to sort out, so I'm quite impressed that he has chosen to step away from the prestige of F1 and focus on his family and his happiness. For a race driver that would be an extremely difficult decision. It's a big loss to F1 though.

As for Hamilton - I don't think we'll see him in a McLaren this year, maybe not even next year. Ron Dennis knows that putting him in a McLaren too soon would be the worst thing, so I think we'll see Hamilton continue to focus on GP2, and then next year either have a McLaren tester role, or a drive in a lesser team to feel his way into F1 a bit.

The news has twisted this story I think by saying the he was sacked (fired) from Mclaren. That got me a little confused.

Montoya wanted to continue, so I would say he was sacked. Of course Mclaren cant say that.

I doubt he was "sacked" as such. McLaren might have taken the first step but I suppose Montoya agreed to be released from the deal without a legal fight.

I'm just surprised it didn't come sooner. I personally thought he'd be gone soon after that tennis ball incident.

i think decision for Montoya to leave/get fired was good for the team.
There has been some friction between Kimi and Montoya in the past
