Default Nissan GT-R to be in Rolex Grand Am Series

A brief blurb over at GT Channel revealed a rumor we hope would come true. According to the site's sources, Nissan may be considering campaigning a GT-R in the U.S.-based Grand Am series. If it were to come to fruition, we'd expect the GT-R to be mixing it up in the GT Class with Porsche GT3s, BMW M3s, Corvettes and Ferraris. With a slightly detuned engine (power is limited to 450 hp) and a serious diet, we think a GT-R campaign could up the ante on what is arguable one of the most exciting motorsports events around.
no word yet as to which Grand Am series its gonna be in (Koni Challenge or Rolex Sports Car).

If it's factory backed, probably the GT class. Koni Challenge seems more tuner cars, and not as much publicity. Not to mention that Nissan has a history with the 24 at Daytona, and would probably want to repeat their successes. Koni Challenge doesn't run the 24. Though earliest this will be is probably the 2009 season, which means I most likely won't be there to see it. Would be cool, I imagine. I remember the first year the RX-8s ran, there were some 6 or 7 teams on the field. Wonder if we'll see the same with the GT-R's...

The other difference is, as YK19 said, Koni isn't on Speed TV usually. They might cut their teeth in Koni at the end of the year this season, but in all likelihood it will all out assault on Porsches in 2009.

Ah, okay. I never really got a chance to see them in action. Usually by the time I get over to the track for the 24, there might be one or two Koni cars left there.

Oooh, the Rolex series already a lot of fun to watch, this would make it even more interesting.

Sweet, hope the Rolex series stops by Road America next year.

Any word on ALMS and the GT-R? I am sure Nissan will be doing LeMans...

i doubt it. for right now, they're developing the GT-R for SuperGT and Grand Am for right now. they're gonna wait and see how it does in both series and then they might think about coming back to LeMan. i'm pretty sure they want to really bad seeing as how they dominated when they were racing with the old Nissan prototypes of the early 90's.
