I don't speak or understand German so I have always wondered what do the names of the corners on the Nurburgring Nordschliefe mean or what do they refer to?
Most racetracks here in America just have numbers for the corners. Sometimes though, they might have names of famous racing persons as the name of the corner or other famous racing names/terms. Othertimes, the corners might be named describing the corners itself like "s-turn". However, most racetracks here only have turn numbers I can guess that the "Karusell" means the same thing as it does in english "Carousel" refering to the rotating childrens amusement park ride. So do the corners on the Nordschliefe have any meanings? |

^ Great site, covers most of 'em a whole lot better than this non-German-speaking forum goer can.

that list is great indeed. a lot of those names stem from times so far back that even as a german i have to read the explanations.

Yeah, thanks for the link. Some of the names sound funny when you actually read what they mean, like tiergarten = animal burial garden
How about corners from other tracks: maggotts, becketts.... |

members.chello.be/sf15211/nordschleife.pdf If you want a guide on how to go quickly. I googled it before I entered the thread, so I wanna at least get rid of the link...

there is quite some confusion regarding the amount of bends. some count every little kink, and there are dozens of them, others count only proper corners. officially the number is 73.
however, naming every one of those corners would result in an amount of names that nobody could ever recognize, so instead of single corners, most names refer to whole sections of the track. with some exceptions of course like the karussel.

Carousel Obvious once you've driven/ridden the famous 270-degree banked curve
The banking was originally only there for drainage, with the bend going around the top. Caracciola was the first driver to use it as a means of carrying more speed through the bend, which is why it is now officially known as the Caracciola-Karussell (but you won't ever hear anyone use the full name - it's just too long!).I love that!
