Default "Nurburgring" in the United States?

Is there anything even remotely comparable to the Nurburgring in the United States? Have you heard any discussion of building such a track here? Where would be a good location? What would make the track good?

Mostly I'm just curious, but I'd also like to spend time on a big track like that.

Nothing close track wise, but there's probably some roads like it.

I recall a Modern Marvels ep where they did show a few good roads in central US, nothing track wise.

Also if you count non-continental US; Oahu!

Best American track off the top of my head is Laguna Seca, but it's short. Go driving around Yosemite, it looks just like the ring.

there was actually a pretty huge thread on /o/ about this maybe 3 weeks ago. the general consensus was that the nurburgring is an anomaly. There are no other tracks of it's size and complexity anywhere else in the world never mind the states. Trying to recreate such a track would be a HUGE and very very very expensive endevor and highly impractical.

Are we gonna break out Oxford English or something?

While "there's" being applied to purals is obviously incorrect, I type like I talk and on this side of the pond where people actually speak the language, "there's some stuffs" is a lot more common than "there are some stuffs" I find due to syllables and such.

stuffS? Oh my god, this is getting worse... stuff is an uncountable noun, and as all uncountable nouns, it is refered to in singular, while meaning plural. There are only a few exceptions, but they only apply to cloths and scientific materials.

lol, well "there's some stuff" sounds singular, so I added an S to make my point clear.

Road America - 4+ miles of near perfect road racing - very long straights, tight quick turns, hills on 640 acres!

Maybe not a refined race track with its transition from tarmac to dirt and stage racing, but comparable in length and certainly difficulty I would nominate pikes peak to be America's Nurburgring.

Continentals (as in "Fog in Channel! Continent cut off." newspaper headline) all speak languages where grammar is very important, one of the reasons why Brits have difficulty learning Foreign languages is because English is very forgiving of Grammatical Errors, usually, and around 1963 we gave up teaching grammar properly so when we try to learn a Continental Language we make a pig's ear of it and give up discouraged. But the one thing that Continentals do not get is the idiom, and most can't tell the difference between the various flavours of English. The Dutch are particularly good at English, but you can always spot a non native speaker after a few minutes.

Lucky for me, my own language has very strict grammatical rules and is littered with idioms. images/smilies/wink.gif
