Just a compilation of what I think are the most demanding circuits/races still ran today.
5.) Nurburgring The Green Hell. 12 Miles and too many turns to count. Many have died.
4.) Baja 1000 1000 Miles of desert absolutely fat out.
3.) Paris-Dakar. 9000km in some of the most extreme conditions on earth.
2.) Isle of Man Tourist Trophy Extreme speeds on public roads on motorcycles, these guys have courage. 15 Miles of flat out speed.
1.) Pikes peak hill climb 12.4 Miles. 156 Turns. 7% average grade. More than a mile elevation change. Sheer thousand foot cliffs with no barriers. Just insanity. I'm going this year.

I feel like the Dakar Rally (no longer Paris-Dakar) is easily the most brutal race out of the 5. The Baja would come second.

Yeah, the Dakar has got to be the most grueling race on the planet.

Most grueling, but I still don't think its as extreme as the TT or the Pikes Peak hill climb

I think you cannot put offroad and onroad races into one list. Everyone will tell you that offroad is sooo much more extreme because you can die when you drive too fast... well, yeah, sure...
You can take part at Dakar (or Baja or Pikes Peak) and do tourist speed (yes, in Africa there are roads. Yes, really, but it's hard to believe I imagine) and maybe you will finish. N24 (Nürburgring 24h, like the Aston Martin N24) is the same. Enter it with you average car with prepared for racing (safety cage should be enough) and with enough coffee you might finish aswell (hell i think i can drive on top of PP myself in my mom's Diesel-Peugeot). But try to overtake the leading cars and you will problably die - in a terrible fire! Just like Dakar or any other offroad race, where you try to compete for the overall victory. starfox07, your list is perfect in my opinion! Nice work! 3 videos which proof, that N24 is maybe the worlds toughest 24 hours road race. Take the TopGear 24h of Silverstone special, remove all the "oh, i think i am at [random] corner", because as a rookie you won't remember any corner, any straight. If you are lucky you won't find yourself driving the track anti clockwise. Now put more "oh god, i hit a car / oh god, i am off the track", because it's so tight, you cannot belive it - better, replace any other comment about anything with the "oh god, i ...". Oh, yeah, the videos lack driving footage (no problem, if interested: youtube -> "VLN", or youtube -> "nürburgring 24", or whatever) and they lack the topgear passion. if tl;dr then just watch video number 3:

I really wish they would add Pikes Peak to the WRC calendar.

I think that would be a really cool idea. Colorado Springs would be big enough to host all the people and hoopla that come along with it. Although 12 miles is a bit short for an entire WRC event. I'd think they'd have to make the run to Pikes Peak a stage, preferably the last and have some other stages in the surrounding areas.

I am pretty confident they could find additional twisty roads in The Rockies near-by.

You do know it's our state that is the reason America doesn't have a WRC event right? Fun WA trivia
![]() hint: it involves guns and the olympics

I would like to add the Bathurst track here in Australia to that.
The annual V8 Supercar Bathurst 1000 tests the drivers' ability to last the distance over 1000km race. The track offers a variety of twists, turns, dips and superfast straights around Mount Panorama. ![]() Youtube clip of last years pole sitter. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XKpP1Sd4iHU Last edited by Paul_The_Aussie; March 14th, 2008 at 02:54 AM. |

I can see what you mean but the order is wrong.
It should be 1)Dakar 2) Baja 3) Pikes Peak 4) IOM 5) Nurburgring also, what 'rules' apply? Fighting the elements? extreme heat? Extremely difficult roads? Oh yes and Bathurst should apply aswell, because it's a fantastic track and has some awesome drop in it. |

Is Pikes Peak really any more extreme than many normal rally stages?
For me their can only be one contender. The Paris-Dakar.

Well, going off the road means drop of hundreds of feet, in some spots thousands of feet, and then there's the massive altitude change from start to finish, but those are really the only big differences between your normal forest or mountain rally stage and Pike's Peak. Mind you they do make a difference, and Pike's Peak is tremendously spectacular to watch. On top of that, the machinery used is much more extreme (up to the 940bhp Suzuki Vitara driven by 'Monster' Tajima).
