(CBS) If the Census Bureau has their numbers right, we're fat, lonely and our neighbors smell funny. Yes, apparently the Census Bureau asked, CBS News correspondent Sharyn Alfonsi reports.
Almost four million Americans told them they are bothered by odors coming from their neighbors. And about half of them want to move, but they're not willing to get off the couch. Americans will spend the equivilant of 65 days in front of the TV and a little over a week surfing the Internet. Never has a nation hoped more that the numbers do lie. Yep, we're the fattest on the planet. Thirty percent of Americans are obese. And our waist lines aren't the only thing expanding. http://www.cbsnews.com/stories/2006/...n2273709.shtml

Umm, apparently the British aren't far behind:
In 2004, about 25% of all British children were obese: http://www.physorg.com/news64857288.html The percentage has almost doubled in the last 10 years.... Probably because British children are also among the "laziest", even more so than American children: http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/health/5315358.stm Between 1982 and 2002, adult obesity rates in Great Britain have tripled. Some 19% are obese — and 39% overweight. Also, as of 2003, 39% of Australians over the age of 25 are overweight and 20.8% obese — 2.5 times the levels found in the last comparable study in 1980. http://www.theglobalist.com/DBWeb/St...x?StoryId=3726 "The annual Health Survey for England 2004 also found 1-in-4 adults is considered obese", which would be 25%.....not far behind the US at all..... http://www.physorg.com/news64857288.html So the problem of obesity is not just an American epidemic folks.

Obesity is just as big a problem in Australia - those stats about American don't suprise me, but I'm guessing you'd find very similar results in England and Australia.

I'm not surprised by that. So many Americans are obsessed with getting the most good they can, for the least money. Not worried about the effects that eating loads of cheap and nasty food cause. Businesses aren't helping the matter, either. In contrast, they cater to the problem by offering more discounts.

This is such a joke. At one point I weighed 200lbs (I'm 6'2") and according to my BMI I was overweight. WTF?
Here's a link to a BMI calculator: http://www.cdc.gov/nccdphp/dnpa/bmi/...calculator.htm |

I'm "overweight", but not fat. I'm probably 180-190 and 6 foot (but I'm a thin frame and should weight less).

depends on what the survey defines as obese ... because 30% doesn't sound too bad.... only 3 out of 10.

There are far worse things in the world then having too much food. But you can't bash America with those, so no chance of seeing any threads.

All civilized countries have too much food, we just don't eat it till we explode. And from my visual experience there is no denying, you are the fattest country in the world.

Isn't it more like 64% of Americans that are fatasses?
That's right, I said fatasses. It's not genetics, it's your own damn fault, and no TV commercial hawking suspicious-looking pills is going to save your lard ass. Go on a hike or something, fatty mcfat fat!
