Cleveland, Ohio high school shooting spree

A teenage gunman was killed Wednesday after going on a shooting spree at a high school in Cleveland, Ohio, according to police and media reports.

The 14-year-old student was killed after the shooting rampage in which two teachers were shot, CNN affiliate WOIO reported.

It wasn't known whether police shot the youth or he killed himself. He reportedly was upset about a suspension.

At least two people and perhaps as many as four were wounded at SuccessTech Academy, a high school in downtown Cleveland, according to reports.

Two students were taken to hospitals, said Andrea Jackson, press secretary for Cleveland's mayor. One was taken out of the school on a stretcher but was conscious.

Cleveland fire, police and EMS are at the scene, as is Mayor Frank Jackson.

CNN affiliate WKYC reported four were wounded.

The academy describes itself on its Web site as a "small, nontraditional high school that provides a learning environment in which all student believe in their ability to succeed."

It adds that the curriculum is "problem-based" and "infused" with technology.

The school occupies three floors of a multistory downtown building that also houses businesses and organizations.

That sounds eerily like my high school...a small, accelerated-learning place with only 50 people in a crappy urban setting (in a basement somewhere). It's scary that it can happen anywhere, even at a place like that. I hope the victims are fine.

I tend to think this problem stems more from the way schools dish out harsh discipline before it's needed. The first thing to be done should be slightly pacifying, an attempt to calm before stricter measures are taken. Starting harsher punishment from the start just makes them more angry, elevating the risk of something like that happening. This event is the culmination of school staff taking the wrong action with that particular student.

I'm not taking sides with either, most schools are miserable and the staff don't help. It's terrible that the boy doing the shooting was killed, but he didn't kill anyone himself.

This is what heppens when a 14yo person is not allowed to buy alcohol, drugs or any "relax" stuff and is being aimed to "succeed" all the time. This school he was in sucks for 2 reasons:
1)One of their students tried to kill smbd.
2)Believin' he can succeed at everything (the main goal of that nontraditional school), the guy FAILED to kill any1 with a loaded gun.
