Could you fight a dog?

This is an argument I was having with my buddy. He thinks that if worse came to worse he could fight off a large dog, like a Rottweiler.

I on the other hand think that I would be toast.

So consider you're in a videogame-like setting with just you and a big dog intent on killing you. What do you think would be the result?

Edit: I've decided that it depends on the type of the dog, so which is the toughest dog you think you could fight off? (higher number = tougher dog):

1 - Weiner Dog - Light

I'm voting category2, conisdering that if you did try to fight a lab, it would just try to lick you to death.

Category 3, german shepherds are tough. there's a reason why police use them

I must dissagree with some of the weights you've listed as I used to have a German Shepard that wa 68kg. He was a little bigger than the St Bernard we also have.

I went with 3 because I could outmuscle a Shepard (I had one), but I probably would still be pretty badly wounded.

I've faught a Rotty. I've faught a German Shepard too. Don't ask...I just have. But much has to do with the nature of them and how ferocious they are. Those dogs weren't that vicious.

I have a Retriever. I've faught a lab about the same size. Again don't ask...that one was bloody pissed off. But how I held it off was by penetrating as hard as I could, the side of his mouth which in turn pushed his skin in between his teeth and therefore he couldn't bite me.

I hope I don't get quoted on this post for my remaining time here on the boards images/smilies/lol.gif

I'm Australian...hell we have Kangaroo's that jump in through the kitchen window and we have to wrestle them to get our dinner back! Wait...not really images/smilies/tongue.gif

Theoretically I could fight any of those dogs if I got the first punch...

But seeing as that is somewhat unpredictable I'm gonna go with 4.

I once had to deal with a pissed of St. Bernhard that was running loose, that thing weight 90kg and I can honestly say that is the most scared I have ever, EVER, been in my life.

Edit: and voting UKD is nuts was VERY tempting images/smilies/tongue.gif

And break any given bone in your body apart from the head.
I have a German Shepard with around 47kg and he is a lot bigger than the German Shepard's which the police use over here. Those have hardly more than 35kg and are a lot smaller.

It was a lab btw..

I might as well explain so I don't get asked again - its at a friends country property out in rural NSW. He has lots of dogs there (mainly used to round the cattle). The housedogs however are quite violant and once they all started having a go at me. I'm not really a tall bloke - the German Shepard was almost as tall as me on his back legs! I've learnt to deal with them though...

Here at home, we've just got a Retriever and she's a spoilt, domesticated dog whos just so loveable.
