Default Finalgear doctors, please read!

So I've been having a weird very slight fever (or rise in body temperature) for the past ~two days. Usually my tempreature is somewhere below 37C (98.6 F) but now it has been between 37 C and 37.5 C (99.5 F). While that kind of temperature isn't even really classified as fever, for me it is pretty high. It makes me very tired and I feel sick. Basically I wake up feeling okay, then as the day goes along I get these shivers and start feeling hot and crapppy.

Right now I have two ideas to why this is happening. Firstly, after being on Citalopram for about 10-11 months, I gradually lowered the dosage from 30 mg to 10mg and last Thursday I took my final pill. I stopped this treatment because I didn't feel depressed any longer and my doctor thought so too. I got the withdrawal effects that I had anticipated (feeling a bit sick and having brain zaps). Quitting this drug might have sparked something in my body (the fever).

The reason I'm not entirely convinced on the theory presented above is because around this time last year, I had the exact same thing. It lasted for atleast a good month or so. I went to the doctor, she did some tests, nothing came out positive. She convinced me that I was depressed (which I was) and prescribed me Citalopram. After taking the drug for a while, the fever was gone (don't really remember how long it took).

I don't know if the fever went away last year because of being on Citalopram or because of something else. I'm trying to wonder if somekind of a pollen allergy or something is causing this.

If anyone of you has any ideas to what is causing this damn "fever", please let me know.

PS. Oh yeah I forgot to mention that I'm also constantly on 2 x 10mg of Kestine. It's an allergy drug but mainly I take it to sleep better (no, I have ZERO idea why this stuff makes me sleep better but it works). On the other hand I'm also allergic to pollen so it fights that aswell.

You know there is a real place with really qualified people to help you with your problems? If you ask the internet you're likely to get advice like pour soup down your pants and video tape your self doing it.

So, pour soup down your pants and video tape your self doing it for laughs... then go to a doctor.

Allergy drugs contain anti-histamines, which usually cause drowsiness. That's why you sleep better when taking them. You don't really have a high fever, but I would take some ibuprofen (Motrin or Advil) which will reduce your fever and pain. Don't take ibuprofen (or any NSAIDs) if you have liver problems. If so, acetaminophen (Tylenol) may be a better choice. Drink lots of fluids if you can and rest.

I vote for this

Anyway, doctors are dumb.
I've learned that if it's not killing you (at least not quickly) you just got to deal with it.
So either do that or you can get the names of 20 different specialists try them all and see if you get anything.

I've had breathing issues for over a decade and they're still clueless on it, or anything else wrong with me. They won't even give me anything good for the pain.

First off, I'm not a medical guy (I do have a degree in psychology, but that doesn't count), and have no business giving advice.
An allergy sounds like a reasonable theory if you suspect that it's tied to this time of year. That popped in my head too when I was reading your post before I got to the point where you mentioned allergies.

If you were a computer, I would suggest a trial and error method of stopping or increasing medicine to see if the fever goes away or gets stronger, but humans aren't exactly computers. images/smilies/lol.gif

Probably the part where you didn't say, "I didn't get any answers and something is still wrong, so I'm going back".

The advice you'll find here is likely to be, "It could be problem XYZ, ask your doctor about it.".

Yeah last year I tried that. She pretty much got pissed at me and said there's nothing wrong with me according to the results. I guess a private doctor might be better but those cost money.

Go see your doctor and explain all this. No one can diagnose you over the internet like this, even with a medical degree.

It´s funny that Kestine is meant not to make you tired - but it does. Same here ... I take it too and It does make me a bit more drowsy ...

Two things about antihistamine-drugs in general you should take into consideration here. First, like any other medicine you should only take them when you need them, not always. Taking them in order to sleep is misusage. And 2x10mg ? I react quite strongly to some specific pollen, but I´ve been advised to take 1x10mg - 2x10 only in exceptional situations. On "good days" I´ve also been advised by my doctor to maybe only take 1x5mg to limit side-effects and let my body recover. Of course every case is different and I might not compare with you. I just would suggest you ask your doctor about it ...
Secondly, be aware that antihistamine-drugs are likley to weaken your bodys immune-system a bit, lower Immune-reactions in general. I personally get sick quite easily after some weeks of antihistamine-drug ...

But ... be also aware that sickness or medication-"counseling" on the internet might get you a good bit closer to serious Hypochondriasis. Maybe you just need a cup of soup and a good sleep ... so don´t worry too much.

Maybe give your body time to fight whatever is wrong. You said you've felt this way for 2 days only.

Since this happens around the same time each year, I think it maybe because of some event that happens during that particular period of time, but it maybe because your body is going weird because you've gone off the anti-depressant after taking it for such a long time.

I'm no doctor, I gathered all that pretty much scrounging off my sister's medical knowledge.

I think the most sensibile piece of advice the the members of Finalgear can give you is to go to another doctor because no matter how trained a person may be hey cannot diagnose you through the internet, if your current doctor is ignoring your symptoms then she's a lazy bitch who can't be bothered to treat you, not only this but the fact that she's ignoring you even if there's something genuinley wrong with you is a significant enough reason not to see her anymore.

Oh yeah I definitely used to be hypochondriariaöisyöslh whatever but now I don't worry so much. I don't know about using Kestine too much because the doctor said it is okay for sleep medicine, but yeah, you're prolly right about that one. The only difficulty in taking something to help you sleep better is that when you try to wean them off... no sleep.

Oh well thanks for everyone for their replies. I'm about to take a trip to Japan later this week so I don't have the time or the opportunity to go to the doctor (takes about a month to get a time if you don't have anything serious and urgent).

This kind of thing happens to me a lot (or more than it should). I have a weak immune system, bad allergies, and had a host of vitamin deficiencies for a while, so all I can say is sleep a lot and take some advil. It may have happened at the same time of year because you were around a lot of people (convention, lecture...?) or just allergies. But Doctors are idiots. I had a friend who was sick for months and went to tons of doctors until they FINALLY found out what was wrong (actually it was a bunch of things).
