So have I. There's a number of possible explanations for it. The people who most frequently visit the internet are generally students or people who have internet access at work. Both tend to be people higher-than-average intelligence. Combine this with the limits of those online "IQ tests", that tend to read too high for anyone with a basic grasp of logic and language (okay, forums tend to give you the impression that both cannot possibly be true), and there's an explanation for those results.

Last time I took a test, the result was around 132. But I'm not sure... it was a hurried-up test on the PC.

lolz...Everyone is teh smart one here... nobody will admit that they're in the bracket 70-90

On all of the tests I did over the years my score has always been 135-145...so I chose the 130-140 one. And yeah some of those were tests on the internets...but I usually score the same as in a "real" test.

Also, doesn't the "genius" category start from 200 and up? I thought you really had to ace these tests to get anywhere near "genius"

Well not sure students really tend to have much higher than average intelligence, one study here had medical students at 116.2 IQ average, 0.2 below high school graduates average (revenge of psychologists for being dismissed as quacks for so long?). Particle accelerator at work = higher than average intelligence? maybe, but internet?

Dont think so, that score would put one in the top 0.0000001% which means when you sonsider the current population, there would be about 6 people on earth that are considered geniuses at any given time.

I can't take online IQ tests because by about halfway through I can't help but worry that I'm going to turn out to be a total moron, and I don't want numerical proof of it. So I then start to rush and over think and then just give up because I know I'm making it worse. Also, If I turn out to be some kind of smarty pants, then that is even more proof that I need to be getting my ass back in school and getting a better job, which is depressing somehow.

I was using broad, sweeping genralisations. In general, someone at a university tends to have a higher intelligence than someone at a Fachschule . Same goes for sysadmins vs someone operating heavy machinery at a factory. Of course there are exceptions to those generalisations.

PS.
My wife worked at GE Healthcare in Eindhoven for 6 months where they use particle accelerators (producing iodium isotopes used for tracing), and everyone there had access to internet images/smilies/tongue.gif

Then it wasn't a Weschler IQ test; they were probably "field testing" that test. Since they were comparing it to grades, chances are it was an achievement test, not an IQ test.

I took a one on one test in High School, I got a 125. Every internet IQ test I take is between 110-130.

I think the poll results here are a bit skewed...anyone with an IQ over 145 is a very tiny part of the population; i.e. just be honest!

I have known some people that others consider dumb who are actually quite logical and street smart. And there is my brother who's intelligence is beyond 99% of the worlds population and can be as stupid as they come. I mean, he is SO smart he can be d-u-m dumb.

...hence the reason why, according to the poll, 32% of us are geniuses.

I've been administered a few, but can't be bothered to remember any of them. Nothing like a fun week with a IQ test and an emotional stability interview!

Online tests I usually get about 140. I got a 130 once at work, while answering phones and checking out a client. At that point I laughed, and decided to never take one again images/smilies/mellow.gif

Blind_Io: I don't think we'll see a statistical bell curve here. First, I think most people who visit this form are fairly intelligent persons. We just act like idiots. Second, how many people would like to admit they got a 90. I'm sure some will, but a good number would inflate their numbers. It's like admitting you managed to get less than 400 on the old 1600base SAT.

Oh, god. Not another Internet IQ test thread.

In the real world, people with massively high IQs are always frantic maniacs who never relax and have a bit of fun. They're too busy searching for perfection, they're as dull as ditch water. As already said, sometimes they can even seem a bit dim, because they lack social skills gained by going outside.

Real world intelligence is what really matters, social skills will get you much further in life than a massive IQ number. I won't state my IQ on here, it's completely irrelevant to me.

Bullshit. They do tell you something: If you think a random IQ test on the Internet can give you an accurate idea of your intelligence you are obviously not very intelligent.
