Don't worry, you'll build up callouses in no time. The first few weeks are a pain, but after that, you'll be good if you play on a regular basis.

As far as strumming songs such as Johmmy Cash stuff, it all depends on how well you can stay with the rhythm. For some people, it's tricky at first, but this is also something that gets easier over time if it's not natural for you.

Lol, I play that song with my band. Just as long people don't think you're playing it because you have hammeroids, it's a nice song!

I would have thought the Martin would be a lot easier to play...probably the action (space between fretboard and string) is quite high (compared to an electric), but I would imagine it's a superb guitar. Pics please!

Photos of the 1965 Martin D28, as requested. Of course the guitar is never kept in the sun, I just took the photo there so you could see the true color of the wood.

WOW, I would love to play that guitar. Martins are the best acoustics, IMO.

Oh, and that's a great guitar. Thought you said you'd go for an electrical guitar.

The kitchen was remodeled before we moved in back in '93. They did a shit job of it and we are going to remodel later this year. The tile is not white, but more of a parchment color, and the carpet isn't as dark as it looks. The background is underexposed.

I tried to play electric when I was younger, but my taste in music has changed over the years. I had wanted my dad to teach me to play once I finished my degree and moved back to Salt Lake, I'm now learning as a way to honor him and the influence he had on me growing up.

Am I justified in feeling really stupid that I've played guitar for almost ten years and never actually heard that song before? images/smilies/lol.gif (that is, heard it, knowing what it is)

You never changed the strings for 8 years? How on earth is that possible. They must sound horrible, you can't keep those in tune and they must break sooner or later. Get new strings for crying out loud. images/smilies/wacko.gif

Oh have no question they sound awful.. But it's quite the opposite with regards to tuning. They NEVER go out of tune anymore. I play my Jackson most of the time now for gigging/general use anyway.

To be fair.. I wouldn't say they sound awful.. Well. I'll find somewhere to upload a clip to. Judge for yourself.

Edit: This MAY work..
