Default My EBAY acct and Gmail Acct were both hacked!!!

I think I just became a new victim of ONLINE ID THEFT!!!

Okay here goes:
Ebay - new 5 listings under my account, of course i can't log on to my ebay at all but i found out.
GMAIL - ALl my mail are gone from inbox, but good thing they were not deleted permanently in the trash so i just moved them all to archive for now.

I can't log into either accounts with my usual passowrd(which are same for both). I talked to EBAY live chat and they fixed it for me. But Gmail on the other hand is a fill in form and i sent that off few hours ago.

I guess to learn from my experience, all of you who recieve ebay emails from other members... dont click on any links within it.

I had an email message from another ebay member saying "I notice you've bid on an auction but did not win. So here's a offer." I knew it was spam or something malicious so i clicked "REPORT TO EBAY" link and that's where i entered my l/p... thinking it was REAL ebay... and got my pw stolen.

AHHHHHHHHHHHHH DEVASTATING!!!! i have some very important medical school related emails in this GMAIL.

I'm not sure how it happend, but quite often people use the same password for many things, forums, email, paypal. And forums get hacked all the time, only takes a few seconds to get a password and email from a forum thats a little out of date.

So once someon can get into your mail, they can get into the rest.

Seen it happen several times.

Haha, I'm sorry, but that's what you get for entering your username and password into a page you got from an e-mail. images/smilies/lol.gif

Always make sure the URL you are at is ebay.com as well. images/smilies/wink.gif

My ebay account got hacked once too. Ebay called me and sorted everything out on the phone for me. Now that is sweet.

I hope you get all your stuff back intact.

Bad luck... I don't personally know anybody who's had anything like that happen to them, but I'm sure it'd suck... hopefully you get your G-Mail sorted out.

When you moused over it in your email program, did it say www.ebay.com at the bottom of your screen? A lot of times a link can say one thing and go somewhere else!

There are ways of still tricking your browser.

The link could still go via ebay, but link to another server finaly.

Some stupid example that doesn't work:
http://www.ebay.com/asp?=call.www.fr...y_accounts.com

With javascript, you can make the status window show whatever you want. Quite simple to do actually. So the link could said www.ebay.com and when you mouseover it as well, but it could take you somewhere completely different.
