My last couple of days (worst ever)

My last couple of days. I have really been put though the mill. Let me start by saying it started when the Mrs went for a job interview and left a friend here with a bottle of vodka and Iron Brew to top it off and she said he could have a drink. Then another m8 turned up about 1 hr after some1 I have known for yrs at school and like me is a T-totaler. Well the Iron Brew got left on the floot with the top off so he could top up his drink without have to bother taking the top off. The next thing I know the baby (1yr 2 months) started drinking it and spilled most of what he drank on the floor. So I say bugger time to go for a cloth to wipe it up. while I was getting the cloth the child decided he was going to climb the staits. When I got to the base of the stairs he was 1/2 way up, my thought was go get him if he falls there is going to be an injury. Picked him up and started walking down the stiars with him when I reached the bottom step my boots stepped in the beverage that was at the bottom on and preceded to loose grip I ended up on my arse and the baby ended up on the floor from about 3tf. He was screaming so I picked him up checked his arm because thats what he landed on and he seemed ok so I mopped up the mess not wanting another accident. The phone rang the mrs telling me about the job and wanted to know why he was screaming I said there was just an accident then I looked at the child to see blood coming from the inside of his ear, told me said she would be home in 5mins.

She arrived immitatly called an ambulance, paramedic arrived and one of the lads left, examined the child and then called a) the police and b) an ambulance. I am WHAT the police there was two witnesses to what happened WTF? The police arrived and arrested me on the spot. In a cell for about a 1hr then a taped interview then kinda back in the cell to remove my clothes because there was the childs blood on it where I was comforting him and the blood from the ear went on my shirt. They then interviewed both other parties who where there. While this was going on the Mrs at the hospital (who was not even there when this took place) was escorted everywhere ny a WPC. They then released me (with a prison issue shirt on) to walk home. Oh and they where going to take my daughter into care). The WPC at the hosptal follwed the mrs like a shadow until CID came and told her that the where satisfiied it was a accident then buggered off without saying a word.

Been at the hospital almost most of today interview again by hospital staff same story and got the feeling the accusations where flying. Didn'r get out till about a 1 hour ago with baby in tow. The thing is the child is fine almost nothing wrong with him. Forgot to mention the alchol that was confisgated. the pictures of the house, the interview with the NEIGHBOURS and the photos of child from about every angle. We got Social Services coming on Monday and the police coming for a follow up but been assured thet are not interesting the persuing a case. What troubles me is I have witnesses to say what happened if they where not there what would have happened?. What does it say to parents who call for help for the child "I ain't done anything but SHIT who knows what could happen?"

No I don't drink at all. No child drink alcahol. The child (my child) drink the soft drink that tops up the Vodka and spilled 3/4 of what he drank on the floor. Thats how the accident happened because the spillage on the laminate floor caused my foot to slip and the baby fell from 3ft from my arms.

    You have my sympathy.

The thing to do is not get irate with the police but understand kids get hurt by people who perhaps should not hurt them and the police err on the side of caution. Show that you are obviously caring and concerned for your baby and you should be OK with the Police.

Just a tip - Vodka + non Family members + baby = possible disaster.

Make it a rule not to have drink in the house (you are tee total) until your child is at least 5 years old, actually older is better. Explain the above story to your friends and ask them not to bring drink in, they will understand, especially if you tell them you are worried that you may lose your baby.

As you now know babies are fragile!

Wow, mate, I too had a hard time reading that... but I got the lot of it. And I do sympathise.

One question... You said you were arrested, but only held for about an hour, and then they were content that the accident was, well, an accident. Would the arrest still go on your record even though it was found to be a mistake?

yup, still on record im pretty sure. people sue for reasons like that, their files tarnished because of mistakes they now hafta say technically they were previously arrested, even saying it was a mistake may not erase all suspicions from employers and what have you. not saying you should sue tho bud.

Cheers guys thx for the support. This incident happened on Thursday the baby was returned on Friday. It is now Wednesday and we got told at hospital that the police where coming on Monday possibly Tuesday for a follow up which I assume is for them to say we know it was a accident that we have a job to do, this that and the other everything now is fine. No1 has even bothered to turn up.

Cursorily I am wondering what would have happened if there was no witnesses here, would I be in trouble for a accident?

Not sure, would they take into account your background? If you had no history of violence, had a stable life, etc etc you might be looked upon more favourably than some wife beating drug addict.

zaybxcwd12, I really feel for you! That's really quite... appalling. I know they err on the side of caution in case you may have been abusing your kid, but throwing you in prison the way they did? Smacks of guilty before proven!
Definitely from now on the house should be a no alcohol house?
Plus maybe it'd be worth putting a non-slip mat of some sort at the bottom of the stairs where you slipped...?

I'm afraid that the way the police seem now, you probably shouldn't be too surprised if you never receive any sort of explanation or apology. The police are now just chasing targets, and apologies are not one of them...

My "criminal" record includes speeding, defective tyres and not wearing a seatbelt thats the limit of my "run-ins" with the police, don't drink and no drugs my vice is smoking.

"Plus maybe it'd be worth putting a non-slip mat of some sort at the bottom of the stairs where you slipped...?"

Well I suppose it is neglect on my part as there was no safety gates, my guess is that you don't think until something has happened. If the child was unable to climb stairs then it would not have happened. There is now gates top and bottom of the stairs.
