Need some Javascript help

I have this:

HTML Code:

<span>Some Text<script type="text/javascript">someOutputFunction('somevar');</script></span>

I want to hide "Some Text", either by like innerHTML, CSS, or something. What can I do? An ID isn't an option, but a class is.

Simply put, I'm trying to display one thing if they don't have JS and another if they have JS. <noscript> will break validation.
