Depends what kind of watch it is.

Like I was saying, I got a big chunky Seamaster so I could wear it all the time... and I do. It has some scratches on the buckle but you can always polish that.

But if you go for a dressy watch with a leather strap, then yeah, you wouldn't wear it as much.

Nah, metal strap, pretty compact. Just precious.

Can anyone recommend a watch for me?

I'm looking for a modern look. Brushed metal, very simple/modern faceplate (don't like the complicated ones), leather strap with contrast stitching. Want to spend $150-500. The less the better, I'm not a brand snob, I just want something that will last and look good. Smaller faceplate, since I have girly wrists. 8)

Amy suggestions?

Don't get Citizen... I had one and the finish on it was horrible. After 5 years it looks like it's been sanded down.

Seiko makes good watches, the designs are pretty modern. Not sure if many come with leather bands?

Dad has a titanium eco-drive citizen, had it for about 10 years, cost him a fortune, since it was quite a new concept back then. But even today it looks brand new.

I've got an Eco drive Titanium too, got it 11 years ago in Japan. It went under the brand name attesa then but it says Citizen underneath...

It still looks great. I'm quite attached to it.

That's ironic... my Citizen is also titanium and I've also had it for about 10 years. All the colour rubbed off the strap and the bezel has also broken.

I mean it didn't cost a fortune ($450) but even a cheap Timex will last a lifetime. Anyway, I guess it's a good thing I moved up from Citizen. images/smilies/tongue.gif

Just because it's a nice watch doesn't mean it's fragile in any way. If I had a cheaper watch I'd be more worried of it breaking because I'd know it has easily breakable parts. Most really nice watches, and I'm talking $2500+ USD, are actually extremely durable. Most of them come with a scratch resistant, non reflective, sapphire crystal as the face. They're made with the toughest steel, titanium, and jewels so they're built to last between 50-100 years.

For instance, Bear Grylls from Man vs. Wild wears a Breitling in most of his adventures. Just today I was watching him jump into a -1 deg C river, swim across, climb a cliff, then jump in a 70 deg C hot spring on a volcano, all while wearing his Breitling watch. Which, of course, still works fine.

So if you're wearing something like a Breitling, I think it'll be ok when you're mowing the lawn.

Hmm, I'm constantly wearing my Citizen diver's watch, stainless steel, and the finish is holding together pretty well after about a year or so. My Pulsar chrono, on the other hand, looks badly rusted in places; it's apparently made of brass with a stainless steel finish. Nice and hefty, but it certainly reminds you why "base metal" is a phrase to run away from in any watch.

This is one of four I have, a hand-wind Russian ex-military watch from eBay. It's hilarious how shoddily it was made, with ripply glass and a floppy screw-down crown. Ah, commies, how you failed.
My cousin gave me this watch years ago and always found it interesting but never knew where it actually came from...and know I know... :p

(yes, that brown spot is RUST!!!!)

My friend bought me this watch from the UK for my birthday a couple years back. It's a Fossil Dish Philippe Starck PH1044
