Ok, back to watches we actually own.
![]() This is my Maurice Lacroix - a gift on my 21st birthday. Icebone, what is the model number on that Seiko?

It might very well be a joke of yours, but most people do have an notion of the position of their wrist, even in the dark

^ not if you are spastic, I say!
And yes it was a joke, but then again also not a joke. It would have made a lot more sence making a clear 12-sign you can see in the dark. No point denying that. |

I just received a vintage 1976 Omega Speedmaster Automatic from my dad as a gift. He's become a reasonably serious collector and he hasn't worn it more than 10 times in 5 years (he usually wears his Bell and Ross BR-01, his Roger Dubuis Sport, his Porsche Design Racing Chrono, or one of his two Marc Newsom Ikepod watches), so he gave it to me because I'll wear it on a much more frequent basis.
I'm stoked, this is my first really serious watch. When I went to work today, all of my coworkers said "finally you have a watch that makes you look like you work in a jewelery store. If you take it to the back and re-brush the band, it will look like it's new except for the gouge in the crystal." Coming from a sales staff that has three Rolexes, a Cartier and a Raymond Weil on their respective wrists, that was high praise.

You can see my vintage Speedmaster in the first post. Is yours the same model? The Pro? |

No, mine is the automatic day-date. It's an unusual watch as it was offered as an alternate case style to the more common rounded rectangle case that was also sold at the time. I've seen only one mention of it on the interwebs.

Quite a bump I know, but I think this is deserving. I have this beauty coming my way soon. It should arrive by mid-December... it's gonna be a sweet Christmas, I can feel it even now.

a hell of a bump i agree...since i got the Omega, it's suffered a bit. it's actually being repaired right now because a friend came into my dorm room drunk and knocked it off the table which it was on. It cracked the crystal and a shard of the crystal wedged itself under the second hand and wrecked the movement. At least he's paying for the repairs. $410 would be a serious hit otherwise.
Here's a pic of a watch of the same model.

All the watches I ever have owned since my 12th birthday:
Casio DBX-100 - 1985, that watch was the nerd shit in the 80ties. Still working, but many fingernail scratches on the keyboard. Casio VDB-1000 - 1992, full matrix display, no buttons only touch screen. The ultimate king of Data Bank and Schedule nerdiness. Killed in action around 1999 during military service. But kept for sentimental reasons. Casio PRT-41 - 1999, on my wrist since then. Not so easy to kill, this one, but that scratch on the glass is the beginning of the end: Looking for a new one these days. Certina DS - 1989. Expensive gift. Was on my wrist only a few times, never liked watches like these. Greetings, lip Last edited by lip; October 28th, 2007 at 10:43 AM. |

I would if Canada made the best cars in the world... sadly though, we just make copies of random American junk.
