Exactly. I view my phone as a tool of communication, like how a carpenter views a saw and hammer.
I have 2nd generation Motorola Razr I got when I switched to AT&T in 2007. I will probably use it until it dies, and I only use Motorola because like Corn Flakes, the original is still the best. I do not text, or take pictures with it. I use the adress book and make phone calls.
Looking at total volume, since February of 2007, I have used the phone for a total of 25 hours and 9 minutes.

Yeah but that mobile internet has really been a lifesaver to me sometimes. One time several years ago for example, I was on holiday with my parents and we couldn't find the hotel for anything and we didn't have the number. I Googled the hotel and put the crossroads we were at in to Google Maps and we quickly found our way. *phew* Disaster averted. Then there is the typical road trip that I'm on when I want to find some place to eat. Google to the rescue.

The camera is brilliant as well, because honestly, who actually carries a separate camera around with them? It is so nice to be able to take a quick picture of something that I didn't expect to see (like an Aston Martin driving by or something) even when I don't have my digicam at hand.

I did, until it AND my iPod got stolen Friday. And I really need it now because I've got a kitten to take pictures of.

That wouldn't have worked because they didn't get stolen out of my car. I never leave anything valuable in my car, at least not in plain sight.

x2. The Luddites may have a point about phones being primarily used for phones, but sometimes it's great not having to carry around a separate digital camera, MP3 player, GPS system, or PalmPilot. After all, where are guys going to put that stuff? Their man-purses?

It's probably why I've admittingly been suckered by the Apple commercials and I really want an iPhone 3GS. Or failing that, at least an iPod Touch so I can get cocktail recipes, Failblog, NES emulators, lolcats, and whatever miscellany can capture my fleeting attention span momentarily.

Also, you lot do realize what an iPhone/iPod Touch with any of the Wikipedia applications is, right?

speaking of emulators, zsnes is a damn good snes emulator for windows and linux, and mac also afaik

only downside is you have to be on an x86 box.

After all these years, Apollo 13 still is a pretty good movie to watch.

I do not have enough money to activate the mobile internet, I have an ipod touch with wifi but no internet on my phone. I am a girl, and therefore can have a purse filed with a nice 8 MP point and shoot, ipod, and my ity paper phone.

And my game boy and spare games and make up and my keys and my money purse and a beetle pocket watch.

I use my mobile phone as a phone (rarely calls, hate talking on the phone) for messages and whatnot.
But I also use it as an MP3 player, because it has a 2gb card in there (which is more than I need).
And the camera is handy incase I see some cool car, or some humorous packaging in a store.
Because I can't be arsed lugging my camera around with me all the time (looks just like a SLR, but can't change lenses).
And I frankly don't see the need to bust a nut over buying an MP3 player.

If I can take advantage of a device that has multiple uses and fits in the palm of my hand, compared to a bag's worth of stuff, why not?

Yes I still take my camera out when I want to get GOOD photos, but it's for the times you just want to snapshop something.

^What do you expect from Microsoft? They'd never want to bust a nut over a customer.

That's pretty shitty though, I'd be annoyed. I'm just dreading my console getting the RRoD....

For some reason, I think they will believe your claim that the date is incorrect....
But then again, it's Microsoft. Great tech supprt, but only if you can convince them you are entitled to it.

In other news, in about an hour, I get to make an awesome mess making healthy smoothies in the name of school- food tech, specifically. But before that, the theory... *shudders*

Agent says they will not honor a repair for this unit. A brand new unit from Costco.

Guess who is disputing with American Express tomorrow... FUCK you Microsoft. I'm canceling my gold accounts as well.
