I laughed at this:

Quote:
A woman in Denmark played a high stakes game last week when she successfully convinced a bank to exchange bills worth two thousand "kronor" in Swedish Monopoly money for a quantity of real Danish money.

But the 61-year-old may be left needing a "get out of jail" card after a second attempt to exchange the toy cash backfired.

The fraud attempt began on Thursday, when the woman entered a branch of the Nordea bank in Svendborg and handed over two fake bills. When the teller failed to spot that the Swedish bills were far from authentic, the woman walked away from the counter with a cool 1,400 Danish kroner ($240), local newspaper Fyns Amts Avis reports.

Branch manager Ulrik Feveile Nielsen told the newspaper that an inexperienced staff member had been manning the cash desk at the time.

"As long as humans are involved, mistakes will happen," he said.

But rather than quitting while she was ahead, the woman had another roll of the dice and returned to the bank the following day with a further eight thousand "kronor" in Monopoly money.

This time staff were wise to her ways and immediately reported the matter to the police.

When placed under arrest, the woman claimed that a third party had forced her into the fraudulent exchange attempts.

Yep, sounds like a mistake. A very stupid one, but that's still called a mistake. Or "fail", in Internet terms.

No, a mistake is when you know what you're doing and you make an error, like counting the money wrong or typing the numbers into the computer wrong.

When you don't know what you're doing, but do it anyway, it's called ignorance. Which was the case for that cashier.

When I worked as a cashier in high school we had a "customer" who would come in and ask you to make change for a twenty, 2 fives and a ten. While you were counting it out he would interrupt you and change his mind saying he wanted 5 ones, a ten, and a five; then he'd change his mind again the whole idea was he was trying to confuse you into giving him more than 20 bucks back. He tried to pull that shit on me and I told him I'm not gonna fall for that stupid shit so he could either take his 20 and never return or I could call the cops and they could take his 20 for him, he chose to leave and not come back.

Ah, the short change artist. I never had to deal with that, luckily.

Random thought: I officially hate New Zealand's tourism campaign, because they actually used "Forever Young" unironically. And instead of beautiful young people laughing in each other's faces, they should have shown footage of old rally beasts powersliding around winding forest roads. images/smilies/yucky.gif

Better than the tourism campaign that they run here which basically claims the best thing about New Zealand is it's cheap

Oh the money's not too bad at all, ~$880 tuition fee + healthcare card = $50 fee. Then materials and other stuff brings it to only $310.

Orientation on the 5th then classes start on the 9th (or thereabouts).

Woot!

Sucks - it was compulsory when I was at Uni (all of 14 years ago... yikes...), I hated having to pay it considering I turned up for classes and then went home.

Bit of a drop in the ocean when you consider the $20 000 HECS debt you'll have built up at the end of your degree. All the same, I wouldn't like to have to pay an extra $350 on something that I wont use as I'll only be at uni for half a day each week for the next six months.

Across a 3 or 4 year degree it's still over $1000

Man Cannot Live By Water Alone
Restaurant | Chicago, IL, USA

Me: “Hello, ma’am. Can I get you anything to drink?”

Customer: “Yes, please. I would like a glass of water.”

Me: “Coming right up.”

Me: delivering the water* “There you are, ma’am. Have you decided what you want to order?”

Customer: *downing the water* “Wow, this water is great. Do you happen to have any more, sweetie?”

Me: “Er…yeah we do. Do you want another glass?”

Customer: “I would appreciate it.”

(I go to get her another glass of water, and as soon as I come back, she begins to speak up about the menu.)

Customer: “Oh Lord! Don’t you have any vegetarian stuff here?”

Me: “I’m sorry miss, but this is a bar and grill. We have salads, but they all come with chicken or beef.”

Customer: “That’s inhumane! Don’t you know what you’re doing to the animals?”

Me: “I think you should go to a vegan restaurant. What did you expect from a bar and grill?”

Customer: “Don’t give me your sass! I just want some non-animal food! Don’t you have any of that?”

Me: “Well..we have grilled cheese, and–”

Customer: *cutting me off* “WHAT?! CHEESE COMES FROM MILK, WHICH COMES FROM COWS! I’M NOT EATING THAT!”

Me: “I’m sorry then, ma’am, there’s really nothing for you here. Please quiet down; you’re disturbing the other customers.”

Customer #2: *from across the room* “Listen to what he tells you, you stupid b****!”

Customer: “Goodness! You god**** animal murderers deserve to go to hell! *pause* “Er, sonny, may I get another glass of that water?”

Me: “OUT!”

Customer #2: *from across the room* “Mmm… murder.”
