Default What sports teams do you support and why?

I'm sitting here bored and watching baseball, and decided to ask this question. What sports teams do you support and why?

Baseball
Boston Red Sox - I lived in New England and always was used to having Red Sox stuff around, when I got into baseball after I had moved down south, they were the only team I knew anything about.
Chicago White Sox - My girlfriend is from Chicago.

Basketball
I don't support any basketball teams.

Football (Soccer)
Arsenal - Back when I played Soccer as a kid, we voted to name our team Arsenal and so I always kind of followed the team.
Kashima Antlers - No reason what so ever other then I always thought the name was cool.
New England Revolution - Decided to get behind an MLS team, since FL doesn't have one I went back to my old home.

American Football
Seattle Seahawks - My first school's mascot was the Seahawk. Only thing I knew when I was a kid in 1990 was that there was a pro team called the Seahawks, so I got behind Seattle at the age of 5. images/smilies/lol.gif
Tampa Bay Buccaneers - Local FL team.

Hockey
Don't support any hockey teams enough.

Add any other leagues if you support other stuff (like Aussie Rules Football or whatever else have you). May be some good stories here.

The only sports I really follow are football and Formula 1. For football I like the Bengals and I have since the mid-90s when they were dismally bad. For college football it's Ohio State even though they're so awesome at national championship games. I guess the main reason I started following them is because they had the same colors as my high school.

One thing I can't stand about sports are bandwagon fans. You know the type: some random team wins the Super Bowl, World Series, Stanley Cup, or whatever and these people go out and buy the team shirts and little flags for their cars. Every year they're rooting for someone else. It's even more annoying as I've stuck with the Bengals since the fans showed up at the games with paper bags on their heads so they wouldn't be seen there. It's a neat feeling seeing a team go from being the laughing stock of the league to being pretty good like they are now.

F1 is a bit more complicated. I don't really have any favorite teams but there are some that I like to see win and they change all the time. Same with drivers too although there are a few who I don't like to see win. Mostly I just watch it because it's fun and there are some pretty cool moments.

The San Francisco Giants, because my mother and grandmother are from there, they're both Giants fans, and I love The City.

BMW-Sauber (and Robert Kubica): I'm not as to why, but maybe it was their "best-of-the-rest" role (and that I love BMW race cars). I started to take a liking to the team and driver, which then developed into me becoming a fan of the two.

Avoiding the obvious national teams - quite hard in my case but we will pass on that:

Football: Crystal Palace, Brought up in SE London
County Cricket: Kent, Brought up in SE London and did not like "Posh" Surrey
F1: Anyone but Ferrari : "How can anyone like Ferrari when the whole of the F1 management structure gives them so much assistance."
Basketball: LA Lakers : Like the shirts
Rugby Union: Leicester Tigers : Peter Wheeler started out playing for my Old boys club

Oh my god how could I forget, thanks Solberg : Subaru WRC : I have loved them ever since I saw that jump by Colin in Sweden;
< Don't much care for anyone else - Oh, NFL = New Oleans I liked Ebert as a quarter back>

F1
BMW Sauber - I like there drivers, there cars and how there currently punching above there weight a bit atm
McLaren - Well I am British, so I should support a British team, plus I've liked them since I was a kid, not to sure if I'm happy the way there going about things atm though
STR - Two reasons, One: They use to be Minardi, how can you NOT love Minardi, Two: Red Bull...I pipe into my vains, and they have a better livery than RBR
Le Mans/LMS
Speedy Racing Team Sebah - They have an awesome car
Lola-Aston - Looks great, sounds great!
Virgo Motorsport - proper British outfit, with an Italian car

I only watch motorsport, I can't get into other sport, tried liking football but got bored, can't understand rugby and American Football is just rugby with padding. Ice Hockey looks interesting though

Baseball
Texas Rangers: Hometown team. Sure they perennially suck, but they are my team and the games are fun in person. (Not followed closely)

Basketball
I don't support any basketball teams.

Football (Soccer)
Liverpool - Spent a month a few years ago traveling across Europe with a bunch of students from Liverpool. They got me hooked on soccer and gave me a team to cheer for.

American Football
Texas Longhorns- Texas fan since birth. I love the team, but pissed my family off by being the first person in my family to go somewhere other than Texas.

Hockey
Dallas Stars: Went to my first game in 2nd grade (before they were good) and fell in love with hockey. Sure it is strange for me to be a Texan hockey fan, but it is the best live sport I have ever been to. I watch every game I can.

F1: Started watching F1 and the height of the Schumacher run. So I became a Ferrari fan for that reason I guess. Since then I have become a Mark Webber RedBull fan. But really there are lots of teams/racers I like as long as they aren't named Alonso or Hamilton.

WRC: Subaru. My family owns a subaru dealership so this choice was easy. To add to people I dont like, Leob.

I don't really follow any other typical team sports. I watch racing but I really don't have anyone in particular I root for, mostly just drivers and teams I root against. Probably the closest to a favorite that I root for in racing is in F1 with the BMW Sauber team. I just like watching racing.
