Default What we do for fun...

Every year right around the 4th of July some of my friends and family get together to race our rocket powered toy buses and cars. Here's the pics and video to prove it... images/smilies/mrgreen.gif

My brother's bus streaks by:

My bus with it's experienced driver, Piggy.

Going the wrong way is my brother-in-law's bus.

What? No toy hamster attached to a dragster with fireworks attached to it? images/smilies/tongue.gif

That looks like a ton of fun. I'll have to try that out sometime, even though pretty much any kind of firework is illegal here in hardasshio. images/smilies/dry.gif

That looks fun. Reminds me of year 10 design where we had to build these CO2 racers moulded out of wood with a canister in the back. Mine was pencil-thin with just enough support for the canister and wheels, and while its superior aero meant I was leading for the first second or so, it unfortunately hit a bench and disintegrated. images/smilies/sad.gif

That's funny because Ohio is where a lot of people go to get their fireworks. Apparently there are a few factories not too far from the border between Michigan and Ohio.

Thanks fellas!images/smilies/biggrin.gif

This deal gets better every year, I hope to do better next year in the rocket class. I need to learn to weld aluminum, my steel chassis is just a bit to heavy. images/smilies/tongue.gif

The fireworks are fun, but the real fun is with the rocket motors. Your local hobby shop should have some. We where using D12s, they have a little more power than the E9s that where also available. I plan to order a G79 and do a test run off season, I'll post the video when that happens. images/smilies/wink.gif

These are tons more fun than any CO2 racer. I mean there's fire and explosions. What else could you want? images/smilies/lol.gif

How's this for irony: people around here run over to Indiana for their fireworks. images/smilies/tongue.gif There's a big fireworks store literally right across the border. In fact, you could probably stand in the entrance and piss onto Ohio soil. (Gosh that sounds so much fun right now!) Luckily I still have some that I got in Tennessee last year so that'll brighten up my evening.

This just confuses me more. We can't have fireworks that shoot up and go boom, but we can go into any Walmart and buy rockets and motors which do the same thing. images/smilies/wacko.gif I used to build and launch those all the time and it was great fun. I should get back into it again.

That reminds me, I've always wanted to wrap firecrackers around a rocket with the wick under the engine and watch it go boom halfway thru it's flight. images/smilies/mrgreen.gif

Pretty impressive some of those runs, although what you really want are those really high powered Belgian fireworks the Dutch use to blow up speed cameras.
