"Ambitious but rubbish"

Now seriously, that thing clearly wasn't well thought. What if that metal piece fell on someone/something?

Is that a standard procedure? It looks anything but well thought out...

Yep, that's standard, hence the pole sticking out of the front of many helicopters.

I wish I could find more info on this... I am assuming there was some sort of air disturbance that screwed with him, but who knows... maybe he did sneeze... LOL

I just hope he was close enough to home that he got back safely!

He went down due to a downdraft or because he was trying to chase the filler. Not sure.

But then the filler hose was headed towards his blade so he did as he should have and quickly gunned it upwards to avoid hitting the fuel line which would be bad. No fuel in it probably, but still.

However since blades are quite flexible, they flexed a ton and clipped his fuel refill pipe.

Combination of bad luck and possibly pilot error I'd say.

Jet fuel is very safe. Gasoline/petrol is much more volatile. Jet fuel will only combust when in aerosol form. Spill jet fuel and drop a match and nothing will happen.

Anyway, this video reminds me of this:

Still though, hitting an expensive refuelling hose with your blades = bad.

Jet fuel (or any liquid, for that matter) released into the airstream at those speeds becomes aerosol almost instantaneously.

It seems that he pulled up way too quickly. Maybe something happened that made him pull away from the plane that was refueling the helicopter.
