Buying a new lens

Since it looks like my switch to SLR will have to wait a little (money just isn't piling up), i thought i'd still upgrade my cam with a wide angle lens, since i only have a 38-380mm equivalent range. I've looked on ebay and there are 0.45X lens for dead cheap, but i fear that they may also dead suck.

Anybody got any experience with these? What's the sort of money i should think about spending?

Stay away, those "0.XXX" adapters are shit. They're meant for camcorders with tiny sensors so they vignette like mad, they're soft as hell, and they distort like crazy.

Sorry for bumping an old thread here, but I have a question regarding lens purchasing. I know B & H Photo is a very reputable photo shop for their new equipment, but are they equally as reputable for their used equipment? They have a AF-Micro Nikkor 105mm in they call a "9+" condition; is that believable that the lens IS in an almost-new condition as stated on their website? It's quite expensive, so I really want to make sure that the lens is in the condition that they claim to be, since there's no picture posted of the actual lens being sold. Actually, if you guys have better suggestions please let me know!! Thank you for your time folks!!

I think they would be reputable, but the best online retailer of used lenses would have to be www.keh.com.

Bahahaha, I can't believe someone remembered that! I still have the damned thing, too!

... Yeah, I think mine was worse, it gave all of the distortion without making the lens any wider, haha!
