I have a Olympus E-510 which is pretty similar to the 410. It has been great and not to hard to use. Battery like is GREAT too. My dad took it to Asia for a few weeks and he didn't change the battery once.

emil, I am a nikon reseller. I can get you Nikon cameras for really good prices, if you want to. I've already sold a camera to IceBone, so you can ask him about past experiences.
Let me know what your budget is, I'll see if I can find you something nice. |

^ What kind of 'really good' prices? I'm very seriously looking at a D40 for my first DSLR, so that would be one hell of a great help.
And emil, my mate's dad has had many DSLRs, and says that the Nikons are the best. |

You can never go wrong with a Nikon. They are usually more expensive than their closest rival, though.

Alok, my budget is about 400-600 euros with lense included, and do you offer international warranty ?
So what i've understand until now, the most attractive camera until now was the Pentax (probably hypnotised by the colorfull catalog) wasn't actually sure Nikon was good ![]() anyways thanks for the replies ![]() |

Yes, I definitely recommend a Nikon as well. I think Nikon makes sense especially as a good brand for lower end DSLRs, because they are very user friendly.
I'd go for a D40x... the D40 is the ancient 6 megapixel model. The D60 is the newest entry level Nikon, but not much seems to have changed. I say go with the older D40x since you get two lenses. The D50 only comes with a standard lens, which to be honest sucks for even remotely closeup shots. I didn't think I'd need a zoom lens right off the bat as a newbie, but I wish I had one now. |

Just out of curiosity, why Nikon over Canon? I'm getting a DSLR soon so I've been doing lots of research and I'm going for a Digital Rebel XT.

Canon, Pentax and Nikon are all really good usually - my snapper is a Nikon S200. I kind of prefer them (Nikons) - why? I do not know.

All review sites agree that Nikon has ergonomics down a lot better than Canon. And if you're at a show, shooting all day, it shows. The d80 with the battery grip is the perfect size and shape for my sasquach hands. Love the cam to bits! I just need to get some proper cleaning equipment, like a miniature vacuum cleaner...

Having read numerous reviews of both NIKON and CANON cameras, the only thing I've come away with is:
- Canon handles ISO noise better than NIKON. - Canon entry level cameras beats NIKON's (400D/XTI vs D40x or 450/XSI vs D60) But that's it, and they don't beat them by much. But if you got the cash to concider cameras like the canon 40D or nikon D200, it really doesn't matter. Even if you're concidering the entry level cameras, it's not that big of a deal. You have the fanboys that get their gay little panties in a bunch when some one suggest the other brand - but that's gay little fanboys. Don't really need to say much more about that (and I'm not pointing fingers at anyone in this thread, so relax )What you need to look at are the lenses available for both systems, how they're rated, their prices, and what you need. And accessories like eyepiece extenders, remote controls etc. Concider your needs, and choose a camera out of that. If it's canon or nikon, IT REALLY DOESN'T MATTER!! But I still havn't seen any review stating that any of the olympus cameras can compare in image quality to the canon/nikon models - so I'd rule olympus out. A lot of people are happy with their pentax cameras, and they seem ok. I'm just not that familiar with them to say anything either way.

Nikon/Canon/Pentax are the only brands you should bother considering. All three have comparable cameras at comparable prices due to fierce competition and thus none of the makers can afford to have a "bad" camera. I think the current Pentax body lineup has excellent value for money, but I haven't exactly been blown away by their consumer lenses.
Go down to a real camera store, play with everything in your budget, buy the one that feels right. |

alok, thanks, but that is way off my budget, if i get a lense with that it'll go way over 600eu, maybe i'll get the d40 wich comes with 2 lenses, because i don't know where i'll go with photography, probably just a hobby, but who knows, now i need an entry level camera with some functions to play with to see how i really like it.
And between Canon and Nikon from what all are saying it's pretty much a tie, but i don't know, that big and colorful ad of that Pentax cam really left a deep mark on me, has preety neat funtions too, am still angry of my stupid city with no real photo amateur shop just cameras for the masses bs, where are the people with passion anywho ? stupid corporate money loving whores. |
