I just returned from this years vacation and I'd though that I'd post the pics I took. Not that I'm a great photographer. I just wanted to share the pics.
This years destination was Rügen. Quite an interesting place. Germany's largest Island located at the Baltic Sea. Once the summer holiday resort of the rich and the noble later then a part of Eastern Germany. You still get to see some of the former glory the place once had and they're restoring a lot of the historic buildings still standing. The nature is fantastic with chalk cliffs, beaches and plenty of woods. I didn't concentrate on buildings, I much more prefer to photograph nature. The equipment ![]() Historic lighthouses. Fistst glance at the cliffs. Chalk cliffs as they can be seen everywhere on Rügen. Part of a chalk mine. Now of course piece of a museum but chalk was produced there untill the 60's. What's been left of the chalk processing factory. Fields as they can be seen all over the Island. What you see in the middle is a church fists established around 1200. Said church. From the inside. Since Nothern Germany is protestantic the wallpaintings were overpainted. [Insert Nom Nom caption] Flintstone fields. Most likeley remanants of the ice age. Prora - Nazi Germany's first Club Med. It's a gigantic complex (4 km in a row) built as a holiday resort for the German people. Never really used it sits there slowly rotting away. Here you get a glimpse at the gigantism of it. And the decay. Selliner Seebrücke - Built in the 20's as a restaurant for the wealthy. More me. Reed left there to dry. It'll be used later to build thatched roofs. |

Looks like a nice spot for a holiday - not so sure about that 'German Club Med' though... it looks a bit, well, German

Go to Italy next time...
But then Italy is a WAY more accessible vacation spot for me than Rügen...

Why Italy? Two weeks of Rügen costed us around 600€. Plus I've been to Italy a alot. Cinque Terre is the place to go if you ask me.

Italy is awesome. Nice Pizza everywhere. Even cheaper than Rügen, by a mile if you don't go for the tourist traps... Wine, weather, flair. I love it...
