Need noob advice on film SLR

你好! images/smilies/lol.gif

Alright, I've just gotten my dad's more-than-a-decade-old Minolta X300 SLR. It's my first interaction with such a camera(SLR/DSLR), and I have totally no idea what the results will be like (I'll be taking pictures of our Beemer 3 for a start). photo.net's advice is like I'm trying to read Greek scripturesimages/smilies/wacko.gif

Any pros down here who can give advice on taking stationary car photos? Or will our 8.1 megapixel point&shoot do the same?

Thanks in advance!

Most of the information in tutorials for DSLRs will be applicable to film SLRs also.
Was there anything in particular you wanted to know that was specifically film related?

Get and use a tri-pod (or mono Pod) when ever possible and the best range of lenses you possibly can afford for the best pics, but never forget I know nothing really and take my advice with a large pinch of salt. Post something scanned in Lens flare and you will get decent feed back from proper photographers.

Thanks for the reponse. Well, I probably want to know all the steps and preparation needed to take a stationary car's photos. And any other details about using a film SLR, using only layman words images/smilies/tongue.gif

One more thing, is it more worth converting the negatives to digital images or just developing the photos and scan them using our HP all-in-one scanner?

The way I would do it is to scan the negative - I have an Epsom RX620 with this capability. But I am sure that you can get photos done in other ways and by professional businesses if need be. For fast moving stuff (using lay mans speak) I would open the iris as far as I can go, and use a fast film, then the shutter speed should be quick and the image should, with luck be in focus, but others around here are much better at this sort of stuff than I.

Depends on what you're going to use them for. If its just for fun/practice, I'd say do it the cheapest way and that would be to get prints and scan them on the scanner you already have.

Theres a tutorial section at the top of this forum, you can have a look in there to get started.

Don't worry about buying professional film types, you wont notice any difference.
