| Nikon D50 vs Nikon D70s I may be in the market for a DSLR soon and i was wondering what the differences are between the two. They have the same megapixel count yet the D50 is cheaper. May seem like a noob question to some of you guys but I'd really like to know. Also, will my parents oldish lenses fit it? They are: Sigma 70-300mm 1:4-5.6 D DL MACRO and AF Nikkor 28-70mm 1:3.5-4.5 They both fit an older Nikon F70 so I assume they will fit newer cameras. Thanks for your help! | |

| Is the sigma a good lens? I haven't had the chance to use it. I dont have money to spend on lenses just the camera body. EDIT: Just noticed that the D50 and D80 are the same price here: http://www.expresscameras.com/prodet...372960&start=1 http://www.expresscameras.com/prodet...620700&start=1 Fishy site? They have good reviews. Last edited by napoleondyna; June 2nd, 2007 at 12:39 AM.. | |

| The current version of your Sigma lens is possibly one of the cheapest telezooms you can get these days, so the quality isn't that great. Of course it's better than nothing, so keep it and try it On a sunny day and slightly stopped down you will probably get nice and sharp pictures, but don't use the 300mm end if you don't have to, usually these kind of lenses perform a lot better near the 200mm zone.Apparently the Nikon zoom is a rather good performer -> http://www.photozone.de/8Reviews/len...3545/index.htm. The only big drawback is the fact, that with a digital SLR the field of view equals the focal length of 42-105mm, so you have practically no wide angle. But as with the Sigma, begin with what you have and after that it's easier to see what kind of lens(es) do you need. And about the camera bodies, this link gives you a basic comparison: http://www.dpreview.com/reviews/comp...n_d80&show=all If you can get the D80 for the same price as a D50, go for it. Basically all three of them are good cameras, so you can't really go wrong with those ![]() | |

| and stay away from those sigmas. grab a Nikon 18-55mm 1:3.5-5.6G II lens if budget is tight--they're GREAT lenses for the money, and a better bet for the 1.5x crop sensor than the 28-70. just grab a Nikon 70-300mm 1:4-5.6G if you really want a long zoomer. they're like the same price as the Sigma model anyways. | |

Car: Golf IV TDI Rep Power: 21 ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | The only thing that I'm sometimes missing with my D50 is the illuminated LCD of the D70 which somes in very handy when it gets dark. D50 offered for the same price as a D80? Either the D50 is horrid expensive in that shop or I wouldn't even want to know where they got their D80's from. ![]() And don't worry too much about the lenses - they both fit, so you can use them and find out if they both cover what you were expecting. |

| A little update for you guys. I ordered a D70s with lets than 1000 shutter clicks from a guy in Canada off ebay. I can't wait to get it! Now I need a 52mm polarizer... What is the best option here? I dont wanna spend more than 20 bucks or so. Thanks for your help! | |

| No lens included but I already have a 28-70 and a 70-300 (as mentioned in the first post) so I'm basically set. Also i only paid 500 bucks for it and it includes everything that came with it (some parts in original packaging never opened) and 2 extra batteries. | |
