Default Photo printers

Whats a good photo printer that can be had for around $1,000USD? I'd prefer one that can do larger prints(bigger than 8x10), of course with high resolution and all the good stuff. I don't really know much about them though, and I don't even know where to begin.

For $1000 the world is pretty much your oyster. For $400 you can get the Canon Pixma Pro 9000 or for $850 you can get the Pixma 9500. I've heard very good reviews on both. And both print larger than letter format. Unfortunately, my lack of funds keeps me from giving you first-hand knowledge on them.

You should also keep in mind your overall cost. $1000 + ink only makes sense if you plan on printing more than, say, $1500 worth of huge enlargements without ever upgrading your printer. Sometimes, it's just cheaper to take it to a lab.

If you're going to spend that much you can get a top of the line Epson that uses oil based, archival pigments. But Bererker is right, it isn't cheap printing at home, it only really pays to spend that much if you're going to be selling prints.

Well my mom is a photography teacher at a college near where I live, and she has to spend the rest of the courses yearly budget(or its just lost), which is about $1400. We figured a lens (10-20mm sigma) for the D80 (also bought on budget images/smilies/biggrin.gif) and a photo-printer would be the best things to buy.

So this will be used for her students as well as personal use.

I got an Epsom printer - while its not a top notch one, it is really good - so I do recommend the make at least.

^ There is a company called Epsom? Epson make printers, and Epsom is a place in Surrey. Dunno where your printer came from... images/smilies/lol.gif
