PLS Help my friend

Hey guys!

My friend wants to buy a digital camera, and get in to photographing. He has a budget of 3-400 $... I know, its not to much, thats why i want to ask you guys. I always recommended the Fufifilm Finepix S5600, but many of my Fuji user friends, told me that its not that good. So pls help me recommend something . Thanks!

hmm.. I use the Fuji S5600 which is quite an OK camera... but you can see that the functions on the Camera are ageing, but it is very comfortable to hold and its quite good for an amateur photographer IMO

I saw this: F3.2-F8 and that is baaad . We have been taking night photos with it, and F8 is still to big , autofocus sucks on it, max 15sec explosure... So i dunno

maybe he might be able to afford a used canon digital rebel slr ( the original one not the XT)
