EDIT: ummmmmmm.... my brother-in-law asked me to be a second-shooter at a wedding in exactly a month. I gave him a definite "I'll think about it". Should I do it? Ideas? Tips?

If there's not much pressure, It can be a good exercise, to try something new, I guess...

Being the only photographer of an event of such importance to a member of my family would be more scary than going mountaneering in the south of Lebanon where Hezbollah have their arms stores.

But as a second, go go go go. Good experience to get.

Paying: no idea. I don't really care, it's for the experience if I do it.

Expectations: not much, I don't think. I'm the "second shooter", the guy who gets the different angles, etc. I don't think there's any pressure.

^then why such a shabby "I'll think about it?" , I'd go for the "hell yeah" approach if I were you. I myself am waiting for such a golden oportunity. Not only you'll be in no trouble if you get it wrong but the main guy can give great advice.

I suppose the experience is probably worth it, though.

Also, I'm ready to pull the trigger on a Cokin P-series setup, pretty much just for proper use of ND grads. I'm just trying to figure out specifically what filter(s) I should start with. I find the one circular grad ND that I have to have too soft a graduation.

Man, photographags like to give out their opinions without knowing anything about the engineering/technical aspects of optical design. Now, I'm not claiming to understand really anything about complex optical engineering, but at least I'm not a numpty that thinks the manufacturers short change us with constant aperture zooms - but but but but, they must just be closing the aperture on the wide end, why couldn't they just have made it a 2-2.8 zoom instead! images/smilies/rolleyes.gif

A bit pricey, but an Olympus EP-1 with a pancake 25/2.8 would probably make a great compact setup.

Oh, another thing: Is Pop Photo worth the subscription? It's way cheaper than the local photo mags!

Why would I do that? I've learned to know you as someone who isn't barking mad, so I don't find that very suprising. The EP-1/2/GF-1 are quite simply THE compact buy these days. One thing, though. The 25/2.8 is for regular 4/3, the µ4/3 equvivalent is the 17mm f/2.8.

And you did miss the budget quite a bit. images/smilies/tongue.gif
