Car: Aston Martin DB9 (In GT4!) Rep Power: 17 ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | So we've decided to upgrade and want to find a simple point and shoot camera for family trips, traveling etc, the features we want to have are, 1.That it is compact and light, (Optional, but still has to be small enough to carry around in a small bag) 2 has Auto Image Stabilization, 3.has a decent enough flash/light for taking pictures at night and of course 4.takes decent quality photos. Price range is anything up to $700 AUD

| Is there much of a used or refurbished camera market in Australia? I got a Canon Powershot G2 for $200 a couple years ago, and it's still going strong; by now you could get an S2 IS or G5 for a similar price. | |

But if you want to get into photography, the Powershot series have the manual features like aperture and shutter priorities, white balance etc. that you can play around with. Most of the Ixus cameras are a lot thinner and smaller than the Powershot range due to the fact that they use a lithium battery and the Powershot range uses 2xAA (except the PS G9) Since you want a compact camera, the Ixus series is probably better for you. I would either go for the Ixus860IS (as napoleondyna suggested) or the Ixus960IS with the sturdier body (it's got a titanium body, good for a clumsy person like me ). You can negotiate the price of the Ixus960IS to get it within you budget cos I think its about $699.Another thing, if you want a compact zoom camera (one with more that 3-4x optical zoom) the Panasonic DMC-TZ2 and DMC-TZ3 are pretty good. Both of these have 10x with optical image stabilsers and wide angle lens. Little bit heavier than the Canons. They should be selling for about $499 for the TZ2 and $599 for the TZ3. I'm personally a Canon fan, never had a problem with any of my Canons! I would probably go for the Ixus860IS and get a big SD card for it more because of the price. I think I have rambled on long enough!! Hope this helps! | |

| I second this. I have the F30 and my sister has an F20 and like it very much for times when I don't want to take my DSLR around. Its not incredibly small but is small enough it fits in a pocket easily. While my F30 does not have active image stabilization the camera does have excellent high ISO capabilities. My sister went on a 3 week trip around Europe last summer and I was very impressed with the images she brought home. She is not a photographer and doesnt understand what to change etc to make pictures better but she got some very nice images. If you want some sample images PM me and I can post them. | |

Car: Aston Martin DB9 (In GT4!) Rep Power: 17 ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | I'm apologize for not getting back to you guys sooner and for bumping this thread. So here's the deal, a few weeks after I bought the camera (Cannon IXUS 860IS) I went back to Hong Kong for the summer holidays, the only problem was that in that time my sister started using it a lot and soon it trickled out of my hands and it is now regarded as hers. However on the upside this means that I can have a new camera but now I have a slightly larger budget of around 700AUD as I can just have my sisters mail me it from HK (Cheap Electronics FTW!). The criteria is the same as above and I'm open to suggestions, but I have taken a look and I want your opinion on these three cameras 1. Olympus SP560UZ and/or SP570UZ 2. Sony Cybershot T300 and/or T70 3. Nikon Coolpix S600

I use a vaio as my computer so it doesn't really matter to me, and I'm more concerned about picture quality than anything else

Car: Aston Martin DB9 (In GT4!) Rep Power: 17 ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | Anyone here know how big a 20min MJPEG AVI would be? (Yes I know a camera is used primarily for taking pictures, but I can't have a Cam-Corder and a camera so I've got to compromise.)
