Not as sharp as the AF 50/1.4, better bokeh than the AF 50/1.4, neither are as sharp at big apertures as the Sigma 50/1.4 HSM.

The Sigma isn't much more expensive new, but I think I'll struggle finding used ones for decent prices. Thanks for the info though, much appreciated.

I bought a 50 f/1.8 for 100 euro. Sharpest lens I have, at all apertures and only 1/3 of a step slower than the much more expensive f/1.4.

^ Was that the Nikon AF lens? They're much cheaper (about £60-70) but won't autofocus with my D40. Only the AF-S will do that unfortunately. The alternative is obviously getting a new camera and buying the cheaper lens, but even the D5000 can't use AF lenses as you probably know, so I'd have to spend a small fortune.
Is there no type of adapter out there for fitting and using AF lenses with the D40/60/3000/5000? Something that is controlled by the camera and has the Silent Wave Motor built in, but has the screw for the AF lens. Maybe I'm being too optimistic.

After quite some time searching, I finally have a Nikon 17-35 2.8. I haven't had a chance to use it yet but I really can't wait. I still can't get my head around the lack of filter thread on the 14-24, it seems to be its only flaw!

For the tripod arguement, part of the point of a 3 leg design is such that it always under compression.

Just ordered an Alienbees Cybersync trigger and receiver (and a hot shoe adapter as the SB-600 has no sync port).
Can't wait to get my SB-600 off the hotshoe!

Good stuff, epp. I think you've been locked with your bulb+flash sollution for far too long.

Yeah, I know. I get a lot of misses with it, plus it's always popped somewhere in the middle of exposure instead of strictly at the beginning or end.

Of course it does.
Thinking of getting me some of those radio triggers myself. I'm probably getting another FL-50R for christmas (my old FL-50R got stuck to my E-3 in Beirut, and when it came off, it wouldn't get back on, so I've got no possibility to use the flash on-camera, which is a bit of a nusence).

It's just one color, and a bloody dark one too.

Even worse. Photographing something that's primarily covered with black and curly hair is a bitch.
Wait, did I make a funny about your dog?
