Is cs2 backwards compatible with 7.0 and vice versa?

Reason being im taking a class and we use 7.0 so i was wondering if i got cs2, will all the files will work in both versions (psd and so on)

Should work just fine. There are changes between CS and 7, but I think the PSD files interchange nicely.

all of it is backward compatible but forward a few things from cs2 might not work in 7

It's 99.9995% backwards compatible. Some things will be a tad off, but that's hardly noticeable.
