I see that it may seem that im technical/skill biased, but thats because i've been stressing the importance of skills mainly, as that is the difference between my opinion and what seems like, everyone elses'. And by stressing i mean that i didnt waste words on design/look, as that is a criteria everyone evaluates. images/smilies/smile.gif Anyway, once again, and i think finally, my point was that imo, both, technical & design side should be taken into account.

I don't know how to make more people vote, and more importantly participate. There was another thread in the OT section that dealt with why this section is dying.

I think most contestants, myself included, go usually for a mixture of both realism and artistic. I find it personally too much work to go for extreme photorealism and technically correct outcome, plus it takes away from the fun and creativity of creating something different and unique.

Example:

Here is a chop I did a while back of a Scion Tc

http://img16.imageshack.us/img16/6728/scion14gn.jpg

To me, it is perfect, everything is on purpose and the way I wanted it to be, and you can guess what the biggest critic was on this piece: too much contrast, doesnt look real etc etc. Granted those are opinions and if the competition was to edit THIS particular image, there would be many different outcomes. However this my style and the image is the way I wanted it. It by no means looks real at all.

This is image I create is slightly more on the realistic side:

My only beef is if someone comes along creating a 5 minute chop because they couldn't be bothered and then winning over either. No offence to the guy who created the chop am I about to refer to, but in the Volvo S40 Chop, there was an entry of the car sinking in a lake with text saying "I hate this car"... Had that image won anything at all I would have dropped the thought of ever entering another contest on this site again.

I like the idea forwarded of a new voting system in terms of simply setting up a poll, but that limits the voting to just one image. If that is the case, it should be stated that voting for a single image should be based on all aspects of creativity, effort, style and personal opinion.

^ At first (long ago in some previous competition) I though that you have gone nutts with too much contrast, but as time passed and you posted more chops I thought that that might not be a reoccuring mistake. images/smilies/smile.gif

Maybe to avoid such misunderstandings, it could be a wise idea, like implemented on some other sites, to post a few words along the pictures. It would still be anonymous, but the choppe could write a few sentences about his chop, what he was aiming for, how he did it, why he did it that way etc. It would shed also more light on what is intentional, and what is a mistake on the chop.

another idea might be that we dont lock this thread while voting and people can give their car by car opinion, that is what happens on another forum i visit !

I was actually stunned at the results too, i thought mine wasnt the best but neither were the second and third. I really thought that ATsucks' chop had some skill put in it so voted for it as the best, but hey what can i say, it was my first win, so i kinda have mixed feelings !

I'll be honest in saying that when I first saw all the entries for the last Lambo competition, I said to myself, there is no way I'm going to win. I don't want to make premature assumptions about anything, perhaps I did put more time into my design, making it narrow, etc, but I saw your design and I had hypothesized that yours would win as it was a design that would appeal to the demographic of this forum (in my opinion)

I agree that winning is not important (however it is still nice to never the less) and with each contest, you kind of get into the flow of what might get you more votes. Maybe thats just me, but my chops are influenced a little based on what might get more votes than not.

I'm for the idea of not locking the thread. But then we might as well get rid of the "mystery designer" rule as well. I don't think not knowing who did what really helps in the voting progress.

I see that there has been a long discussion going on in my absence. All I can say is that it would be better if there were more entries and even more voters. We could do the technicality and creatism votes separately......or maybe people post their comments on each car as they vote(positive & negative)...

I have been learning and increasing my skills all this time and shall do, so I urge all the regulars to start chopping again...hopefully voting will be better...and If i see a stupid chop, I might not accept it..i.e 1 min chop images/smilies/mad.gif
