Telling the People on your right, what they want to hear and then turning and telling People on your left what they want to hear. He´s not smart, he is a politician - so he tells People what they want to hear. He tells the UN or the US how peaceful he wants to be ("if you let me" - already blames the others beforehand), then turns the other way and tells Islamists about how he likes to deal with Israel. He is one of these Charakters where you never know when he is not lying or manipulating. Might be he told the truth this time ... might be all a lie. But please don´t fall for his apearance and his calm manner.
Hopefuly he doesn´t get re-elected in 2009. Would be one worry less in the world ...

Just an article regarding the stir his visiting is making. If the public wants to protest, by all means do. But I think politicians shouldn't be in the business of trying to suppress free speech. I think it really damages the ideas of freedom this country supposedly wants to spread. I'd also love to see the Columbia discussion, wonder if it will be on tv or online.

I managed to catch the Columbia Q&A part of the visit. The president of CU is an asshole. Why invite someone to speak, and then insult them? He's an elected head of state, and should have been treated the same way they would have treated the president of this country or any other country.

http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20070924/ap_on_re_us/iran_us

And then listening to the news people and their analysts (and Bolton), what idiots. The amount of misinformation is astounding.

*edit*

I also hate people that clap and boo. Let people talk. Like when I watch Real Time w/ Bill Maher, somebody will say something and then there would be huge applause...just let the discussion take place.

I was disappointed last year when Columbia took back their invitation for him to give a talk. He might say some...controversial things, but the right to be heard should apply to all equally.

The right to be taken seriously is another matter. I'm happy the school followed through with the whole event this time.

I read that there was talk about stopping public funding for them, other alumni going on about wanting to rip up their diplomas. It's very pathetic really. Are we so scared of ideas and discussion?

I agree. What kind of introduction was that?

Iranian President walks to the podium at the UN, US delegation leaves. Lame.

I don't particularly care for him. I just agree with certain statements he makes (he has some good points). If I were in Iran though, I wouldn't vote for him or anything.

And I just dislike the hypocrisy in dealing with Iran.

Yeah, I also heard him say there "was no need" to thwart the US efforts in Iraq, yet he continues to do it. It's just his way of dodging the question. Of course he's going act diplomatic and try to make a good impression, but behind that he's really just a snake.

It really is pathetic. When I was at the gym earlier Fox News (iirc Hannity and Colmes) were talking about Tom Delay being barred from speaking at some university, and they had a banner at the bottom of the screen that said something like, "College Campuses Invite Ahmadinejad over Conservatives" images/smilies/rolleyes.gif.

I think it's stupid to condemn someone without letting them have their say. All this talk of war with Iran and we won't even talk to Iran, it's stupid. I'm not saying he's right about anything, or should even be taken seriously, but he should have a fair opportunity to speak and be heard.

mike wallace seems to be losing his touch .none of his responses to ahmadinejad were quite on target .
when ahmadinejad stated that israel targeted houses of innocent people with bombs and missiles , wallace didn't even ask for substantiation of this claim . wallace doesn't ask why the groups firing rockets upon israel tend to do so from inside residential buildings .
when ahmadinejad says the israeli government is a fabrication , wallace doesn't mention the neighbors of israel and how their countries were 'fabricated' by the british after ww1 .
when ahmadinajad claims hezbollah was only defending their homes ,wallace never mentions why israel invaded lebanon . it was not on a lark . israel got tired of the launches of kithyushkin rockets upon its people and hezbollah began to kidnap / capture israelis .

i must admit , though , that if we could not have quite so many people in prison and the government could spend money in better ways (infrastructure , for example) it would be a lot better . if nothing else these flaws give ahmadinajad something to point to .

For the most part, I agree. Although I can't remember an interview in which such an exchange has ever occured. It's rare to say the least.
