Polyheme sounds very promising. But should they use it without consent?

Nothing new I don't think and I think it's pretty retarded that you don't consent. Luckily it's not here.

I'm not sure you all realize how important a viable blood replacement is for the EMT's of the world. This is a goddamn breakthrough! I'm more interested in the development than some people whining while it's out saving lives.

Because there are some possible negative side effects and some people have actually died from it.

Wow, an artifical blood is a big step in the right directions. Although I would not like something like that to happen to me, sacrifices must be made sometimes to get somewhere.

what is even cooler than this is that it is not just a stepin the right direction for blood and plasma replacement it is the first step towards hugely more efficient blood replacements. I believe they are called resprcytes.

basically it is a blood replacement that is thousands of times more efficient at carrying oxygen.

youcould run a 100m meter dash without takinga breath or sit onthebottomof a pool for hours at a time. the theory for these things iswell established and is championed by people like drexler and kurzweil.

the future is now, I amwillingto give up m fragile carbon based body for amuch more advance carbon nano tube based one.

tie me off I want a hit of that.

It's one of the terrible problems people in the medical profession have to face. It may cause the death of several people yet at the same time save the lives of more others who would have died. I certainly don't know if in that situation the correct moral choice is to use the new product, but it is something to think about-
Is provoking the death of several people right if it saves the lives of a much greater number of people? And how much greater must that number of people be (I certainly think it isn't 1-1)?

I was reading up on it and people were predicting people being able to spend days under water with hand held scuba tanks. the fact of the matter is that almost everywhere around ther world there is a massive shortage of blood. people can go through massive amounts for severe but otherwise not live threatning trauma's.

the highest moral imperative for any person should be the preservation of humanlife, all other thoughts are or should be secondary. The use of a synthetic replacement for any biological material should be treated with caution but if you have a pair of 2 inch holes through your stonach from a work site accident or have punctured an artery then you will beglad that you can live to complain about it.

there is prescious little that you can do to avert progress like this all you can do it rally together to try and push technologys advance in the right direction. I certainly think that this cleaner more avialible reliable replacement for a basic human nescicity is a good first step.

O.. Wow

im actually surprized after reading all ur replies (i didnt really get waht the article was saying so yeah). Anyways, it does sound amazing. and yeah it is a MAJOR step forward. Hopefully it works out. imagine how many lives it will save. Finally some good news after awhlie.

At the same time tho. this is just the beginning step. We need to discover alot more before we can actually start using this. Whatever the case i hope they find the missing pieces needed for this BreakThrough to actually start saving lives.
