I believe: IF there was a god, why do bad things happen all the time?

People always say "Yeah that's the beautiful work of God".

My theory:

God gave mankind free will - the bad things we do to each other are as a result of our free will.

My philosophical question:

If God created each person individually, knows every fibre of our being, and is all-knowing, than can't God predict every choice that we will make? And if so, isn't God responsible for our every action?

Because we have the freedom to choose good or evil. God's way is good and Satan's way is evil. You wouldn't know good from evil if one or the other didn't exist. It sounds simple but it's very mind-boggling, isn't it?

If not that then he's not all powerful.
Once again this brings us back to the principle of free agency (the freedom of choice). God has given us rules and commandments to live by. We can choose to do what we wish, but there are consquences (good and bad) to our choices. We send ourselves to "hell". No unclean thing can enter into the presence of God.

If you ever get the chance, ask Him. Nobody on Earth can answer that for you. How did the universe begin? What came before that? My faith teaches us that God is eternal and so is everything that else that exists. There was no beginning and there will not be an end. Our minds cannot comprehend this! What's smaller than an atom? And smaller than that? And smaller than that? Matter cannot be created nor destroyed - it is infinite and eternal.

I'm LDS (or Mormon, if you prefer to call me that). I was born into the church but my parents are both converts. I served as a missionary in Portugal and W. Africa for two years and I met with many people who had questions just like you. I learned a lot about the world (I wasn't sheltered at all). One thing I have learned is that Americans are idiots! We think the world revolves around us. But that's another topic...

Same with the fuel you put in your car. With that logic, you may as well sell your car and start walking.... images/smilies/wacko.gif

People have done a lot of stupid things in the name of religion - that only speaks for the stupidity of man, not religion. A lot of "Christians" throughout history have had faith based on ritual, naivety and misinformation. Having a true relationship with God is something completely different.

^Word. Muslims are not bad because of 9/11. Just because the terrorist cell that orchestrated the attacks based it off of Muslim extremism does not mean that all Muslims are terrorists. Every religion has it's extremists - look at Ireland, with its decades of Protestant vs. Roman Catholic wars.....I don't think any religion is spared from that, and it is stupid to blame religion for such occurences.

More like ppl in power using ppls belief and social values to get them to hate other ppl. Just depends on the society. And the reason they did this was to make a name for themselves in history. It seems to work, cos no matter what, Hitler will be remembered for all time.

Ppl mainly used nationalism mixed with racism. That's really the only way you can get everyone to accept what you do.

They might use a line like "a true <insert group> believes this" or "does that".

Seems to me that it really is a recent development to blame religion for war, but nearly every ideaology has been used to spark a war sometime in history. Main reason was power, with religion as a way to keep ppl motivated to continue {God\The Gods are with us).

Ahh the Jehovas.

They are fun.

I had a Lt. in the army that use to invite them in to his apartment,

They always left crying, he never understood why after all he just told them about his views of the world.

Jehovas are sick people.
Heard of a jehovas family where their daughter was in a car accident and the doctors had to give her blood or else she had died.
Her parents aborted her away cause she wasn't a pure jehova anymore.

About the offended part.
yes I am a atheist and I dont get offended by that.
I just laugh.

but I do get offended when someone says God is with you and all that crap.
Then I just want to punch them in the face.

I'm an atheist, and I'll just say in reply; Jesus Christ (wo)man, you actually believe that crap?! images/smilies/lol.gif

No, I'm just kidding. I won't be offended though, if people want to believe that someone wanders around with a magic wand fixing or breaking stuff, then so be it.

I have a question for you though, would you be offended if someone asked you that if 'He' exists, on which cloud he lives?

in response to the first question posed in the poll itself... if i don't believe in god and therefore do not believe in heaven or hell... why do i care if they say i am going to a place that doesn't exist .... thats like someone comming up to me and saying... when you die your going to the land of OZ... i would just short of chuckle and walk away as fast as i could

I, myself am an atheist.

If a religious person came up to me and told me that I was going to hell or whatever, I would be in no way, shape or form be offended. My beliefs are different then yours so why should I be offended.

I feel very strongly about anti-religion if you would, I think religions are pretty much pointless nowadays, I have written many pages about this. Basically I think that religions help people cope with life, and give them something to look forward too. When you learn a whole lot about life sciences and the universe in general you eventually realize that religion cannot be feasible.

But everybody to their own.
